Day 8 of my advent box. A day in the city.

Another day visiting and another envelope opened.

Today’s package has something I haven’t used before. Cork fabric…..

Today is a key ring with a lovely tag made with the cork appliquéd onto another piece of fabric.

This one is put on hold for a week or two.

Walking through the city I enjoyed looking at all the different buildings. Old and new, big and small, tall and low. Look how these two have that wonderful joining bridge.

Then there are the colours mixed into the buildings. In the distance…

And up closer.

We also had a visit from a HOG member.

I was in the elevator and thought I recognised a couple that were in there too. Yes, I was right.
Last year I made and donated a Harley Davidson quilt to the Melbourne OZ HOG group. They loved it. Pat was the president at the time. He and his wife, Deb were visiting their daughter in the hospital so came up to visit Tony. It was an emotional visit. Anyway, all went well and it was great to hear the stories about the quilt. This group doesn’t have a club room and meet at a local pub for their meetings. Every month they hang my quilt and do any presentations in front of it. It was so good to see photos.
Tony didn’t want his photo taken. He was very emotional. Here is Pat, Deb and myself.
Thanks for the quick visit and enjoy your OZ Hog Xmas party.

December 7. A day in hospital

Saturday December 7 was spent visiting Tony in hospital.

I did open my envelope first though. Look at this pretty pack.

Fabric and a reel of cotton to do the quilting. As I am unable to use my machine I might set this one up for hand quilting instead of the proposed machine.

I did manage to start stitching on yesterday’s bookmark.

Day 6 Advent, a long drive and another hospital.

I opened this envelope early. I am so glad I did.

It was a lovely stitchery for today. The kit for today was a beautiful linen piece to trace the design on, thread and a backing fabric.

So I traced the design on to the linen ready for stitching.

Earlier in the year at Waikerie I won this light board. It is an A4 size and it has been great for tracing smaller designs.

So I traced out the design ready for stitching.

All set for a day in the hospital ward…. Waiting….

Packed ready to go in the pouch I made from my Japan Sashiko class.

This bookmark shouldn’t take too long but I didn’t get it started.

I have brought it with me to Melbourne.

The drs have decided that the surgery Tony needs can’t be done at home so he was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. I drove so got here late after a 6 hour drive. Got into hospital and checked what is going on. Tony is have intravenous antibiotics and will be monitored all weekend then on Monday surgery might happen. As to what gets done I won’t know until then. He is expected to be in hospital at least a week.

I did bring extra sewing and knitting with me.

Thursday 5th December

So today’s advent was a very quick and easy.

So I have ironed on to a wadding

Stitched to the backing

I was thinking I would stitch a running stitch as a border.

Nope that didn’t happen
This gift of an advent calendar project subscription was given to me for my Mother’s Day present from my daughter and son in law. I love it and am having so much fun stitching away with it.

It was supposed to be a post card but I wanted it to keep and will use it as a coaster or mug rug on my stitching table.

Day 4 of my advent box. Tony is in hospital.

 Wow, what a day.

Tony is still in hospital waiting on surgery. The drs are chatting with a vascular team to decide if he should have the infection cut out or should he have the toe/ toes removed. It all depends on his blood circulation and nerve damage. Poor buggar has to deal with not knowing for another night. Hopefully in the morning we will know more.

Anyway, as for me I got home tonight and sewed the day 4 advent project from Chandlers Cottage.

Here is my envelope opened. Pattern, fabric and zip. All I needed to supply was the pellon..

All cut ready to sew.

Zip sewn in

I am slowly getting used to using these binding clips. I do have a few so it’s time they got used.
Clipped the 2 sides together. Sew the lining and the purse together.

All done. Turned right side out

All it needs now is something hanging from the zip. I’m sure I could find something.

So my day 4 is done.

Leesa has contacted me and is sending me some more thread so I can finish day 3 of the advent.
She was very quick, helpful and got it sorted to help me finish the project. Now I’ll wait for some mail.
I’ll post the finished project when I’m done.

3rd December Advent Calendar

I started out early. Well really after midnight last night and early this morning.

So I opened my envelope. This is what I got.

My pattern for a stitched Christmas Tree.

I transferred the tree pattern on to the fabric

Oh no!!!!

I drew it on the straight fabric.

It was supposed to be drawn on point.

A few hours of stitching saw me get so far.

Then I ran out of thread.

I have been in the ED with Tony this afternoon so no sewing has happened. Wasn’t expecting this change of day.

The afternoon and evening saw nothing happen so I thought I best get this post done.

Tony and I spent the day from lunch time in the ED dept of the hospital. Tony is now admitted for the bad/intense infection in his feet. I will go back into the hospital in the morning to see if he has all his toes.

Surgery was to happen. The extreme was unknown. Time will tell.

I may not get tomorrows advent project done so I will be playing catch up.

2nd December Advent is done.

Day 2 of Chandlers Cottage Advent Calendar.

This was a fun one to do. Pity I didn’t have it 2 months ago.

Patterns and fabric to make a luggage tag. The white square is clear plastic with paper covering it to make it easier to sew. The strap is a cat collar.

While watching The Last Homely House with Kate on YouTube.
Sewing the stiffener on. I used bag batting.

And it’s done.

How cute is this

I put in a previously used name tag. This won’t be used on a suitcase at the moment.

I will need to find a project bag to use it on.
I could actual write on the tag whatever the project is in the bag.
Now, that’s a good idea!!!!!

It’s DECEMBER. Time for my Advent calendar to be opened.

It’s the 1st December and I get to open and start my Chandlers Cottage Advent Calendar.

My daughter bought this for my Mother’s Day gift and it arrived last month.

Today is the day to have a look inside. A hello letter.

Oh, it starts at day 6.

No it doesn’t. Flip through a few to find 1st December.

Open the envelope and inside there is. A pattern for a pentagon decoration and the fabric too.

There is also a barcode on the back of the directions to scan. This takes you to a short video tutorial of what is being made. So, I sewed all the log cabin pieces.

Trimmed to shape.

Stitched the backing on, turned right side out, stitched the opening closed and now it is finished.

Very quick and easy.

A great time sewing on zoom

Friday afternoon a message came through there would be a Chooky zoom for FNSI.

Yes, I am home and haven’t done any quilt sewing for months. I’m joining in.

I pulled out this project. I had already paired them up and drawn on the diagonal lines to sew on.

Now to sew two lines on each one.

All sewn together.

That was it for Friday night. It all started again early Saturday morning. I was a bit later.

Now give them an iron and start to cut down the centre.

All cut down the middle.

And ironed open nice and flat.

Trimming down to 8.5”

Putting them in their piles so I can work out a pattern. I do not even know how many blocks I have. I just cut as many as I could from the fabric I had.

All the trimmings are building up.

Thanks Chooky and all the other girls for making my day a great one. It was so good to have the chatter all while managing to do some sewing.
