**** here is the link to go and see what everyone was working on. http://www.sugarlane-designs.com/2017/02/february-fnsi-love-is-in-air.html ****

Over the past 2 weeks I have been working on this quilt. It was started by a friend and it was to be a gift for Xmas. Well, it got a bit too much for her so it was passed on to me to finish. This is what I have done so far.
Strip piecing cut into squares...

My strip piecing layered, stitched and cut.
Making lots of half square triangles.

A pile of squares sewn and cut.
Ready to iron open.

Opened up ..... Looking good
All trimmed ready for sewing.

Layout no 1.. random.

Layout no 2..
Layout no 2 it is...

The top so far.
I still need to add borders. That will happen over the next week. It will end up about 66" x 93"

So I am linking up with Wendy for FNSI.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL.... clue 5 is done and dusted....

I'm tucked away sewing with my air conditioner running and watching the last QUILT CAM. I'm in heaven....
Bonnie posted clue 5 early so us down here in Oz made a quick start on the many half square triangles needed.
How easy is this... http://quiltville.blogspot.com.au/2016/12/surprise-en-provence-part-5.html
I always try to do this method when I have a lot to do.
http://chezstitches.blogspot.com.au/2014/05/the-magic-8-revisited.html This is an easy tutorial to follow.
I did make the odd one or two blocks from smaller scraps for a little bit of extra colours but they were all done in no time. All done before Xmas day. Now to wait for the next clue.
The easy 8 way...

All half square triangles complete

Yes I'm a sliver trimmer

So with that I must say to everyone

HAVE A VERY HAPPY AND SAFE CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR.
ENJOY YOURSELF AND MAKE THE MOST OF THE FESTIVE SEASON WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

FNSI results....

FNSI.... after a nap, dinner and a couple of drinks I was in the mood for sewing.... This is what happened....
I worked/started on my SPLENDID SAMPLER blocks.... It was very hard for me to decide what fabric to use. I think I will go with scraps. I have so many of them. I am sure so many others have too much too. I might even put it towards an AUSSIE HERO QUILT......
Block 1.....was fairly easy to do. The hardest part was which way to applique...
So I decided on Machine Blanket Stitch....

http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/2016/02/14/block-1-hearts-aflutter/
Block 1... Splendid Sampler.....

Block 2..... Half square triangles and butterflies.
This is what I normally do.........
Well, when I use so many half square triangles, especially when they are small. I find it so much
easier to make 8 units at a time...
No Bias Edges at all.  I follow this tutorial and it has worked every time.
Even if I get left overs it doesn't matter. They go into another block eventually.....
Go and have a look here. But remember it does give you 8 half square triangles any size you want....
http://chezstitches.blogspot.com.au/2014/05/the-magic-8-revisited.html
BUT NOT THIS TIME....
I have decided to use scrap fabrics and didn't want 8 the same colour fabrics. I found a bag of leftover ones already done... All I had to do was trim them to size....
http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/2016/02/17/block-2-wings-2/
Now all I have to do is the embroidered antennae.
Block 2 ..  Splendid Sampler ... Butterflies

On Saturday I found this little kit to make a purse. I started putting it together and am now sitting here doing a bit of hand quilting with perle thread...

FNWF...... & My 2 quilts in the garden blocks are here. Border blocks done. Possible layout.

Is everyone going to join in this Friday with us stitchers. It's FNWF time over at
I'm not sure what I will work on yet but it will happen....

It has been great over the last few months working on these fun blocks. Designed by Deana over at
http://dodmystery.blogspot.com.au
This block has come all the way from Kathi in Alaska.... The quilt on the fence is so cute
Thankyou Kathi
And this one is from Linda T.

I have managed to make all 26 of my border blocks for this months finish....

And I even made the bonus Half square triangles too.....

So I had a play with the layout of the blocks. This was a row by row quilt but I am not doing mine in rows. Mine will look a bit busier and come out a completely different size. Oh the challenge.
I will fill in the spaces with the half square triangles and trim some blocks to make them all fit in.
This is what I have so far....
The empty space is for the one  I am still waiting on. A tree block is to come from Linda Th....

A busy weekend sewing

FRIDAY NIGHT...
FNSI kept me busy with me piecing my 1/2 square triangles together. Mari from http://academicquilter.blogspot.com.au had too many half square triangles so gave them away. Yep, they came to me... This is the pattern I chose and will be making it into a folder cover...

After the piecing was done I went on with machine quilting a friends quilt. I made good progress before getting too tired. This is a basket weave design so I quilted straight lines in the same direction as the weave.
Look at what the WENDY and the others who joined in have done..

SCRAP HAPPY SATURDAY....
I am still working out what to make this year for the RSC15 with ANGELA but I am leaning towards this...... An uneven log cabin block. When 4 are sewn together the centre creates a circle. Or is supposed too. The maths was doing my head in. I haven't got it quite right but it will work. This block measures 11" so once the 4 blocks are together it will be 21" finished.

With all 12 blocks done it will be a nice size... I am linking up with ANGELA and lots of others too.

SLOW SUNDAY STITCHING...
I am linking up with Kathy at http://kathysquilts.blogspot.ca today.

I have spent today quietly finishing another Hexie for Heathcote Quilters ...

Then moving on to a XMAS block. It is 12" square, made with a 1/4" bias and woven in a Celtic style. I'm not sure if it will be a wall hanging, cushion or a table centre. There is still plenty of time to work that out.

Where my winnings came from

I follow the blog by Mari over at THE ACADEMIC QUILTER
On one of Mari's posts she was giving away her scrap half square triangles left over from another project.  Her giveaway was HERE
http://academicquilter.blogspot.com.au/2014/08/surprise-finish.html

Well, I was not the winner but she sent me some anyway.
PHOTO OF SCRAPS

Mari said there is 384 of them. Oh boy....what will I do?
It is such pretty fabric I had to go looking to see what she had made with it.
Look at http://academicquilter.blogspot.com.au/2014/05/vin-du-jour.html to see her post.
It is a beautiful quilt.

Now I have to decide what to do with them. I'm going searching on Pinterest now.

Well, this is a start. Not sure I am happy with these layouts. I still have to find some fabric yo go with it. I will still think about it. I am not sure how many blocks there are but I am grateful with what I have.
Thankyou Mari.....

Linking up with WIP WEDNESDAY.
