Bird cage Key holders

I started these key holders a while ago. Maybe a year.

That are my no.11 on my UFO 2020 list.
When I drew out the numbers to be worked on in January I drew no. 7.. For some reason I pulled these out of the cupboard and started sewing. Crazy me then realised they weren't what I was supposed to be finishing. Anyway 2 are done but I do have another 4 to finish when no. 11 does get pulled out to do... I might just get them finished.
They are great to have in your handbag as the keys don't rattle around and they are kinda cute.

Wednesday, 2 March 2016

Oh my. I missed the 1st of March....

Well here I am... Ready to go....
I have had a few busy days and the weather is heating up... 35 c today and heading for 38 c over the weekend... Thankfully I have air con in my workroom.
I have been busy outside painting gates and doing some gardening and the mosies love me. I spend all night scratching... Just terrible...
Anyway... Sewing time...
First up. It's the beginning of the month and time to throw some dice.
Here is my 2016 UFO list

This months UFO project to work on is........
No 7... Road to Jericho.

No 7... Road to Jerhico

How lucky am I that I actually got this out last month on a workshop day and got the top pieced. All I have to now do is quilt it.... How easy is that...

Have a look here to see where and why it began....

Last months UFO was wonky Starburst quilt from the RSC 14 project.
I did get it quilted and binding half sewn on. I have finished the binding and it ready to send to an AUSSIE HERO...
I do have to add something before I post it but that will be kept for the Aussie Hero web site...
Binding is on and after I add the name on to it it will be in the post too.

The. I got finished another Aussie Hero quilt and Laundry bag. Both were quilted last month but today I got the bindings done and the labels on... So they are in the mail.
The laundry bag is complete.

Another Aussie Hero quilt is in the mail
My friend Sue made this quilt top quite a while ago. I resized it and used some to make the above laundry bag.... Thanks Sue. It hopefully will make someone happy....

Quilting fun

I have been busy quilting 2 quilts....
Firstly is an Aussie Hero Quilt.... My friend, Sue, made the top for me years ago in trade for me doing some quilting for her...  It was a square sized quilt. I pulled some off the side and added it to the top. Yep it fits the Aussie Hero size... Its now quilted.... I'll get to the binding soon....

Then I went all out on my Wonky Starburst quilt. It is my February UFO project. I did some whacky quilting. Free motion and in a dark thread. It's not perfect, straight, even or neat but I like it. It's a quilt that will hopefully used. I wanted it to be fun. I was outside my comfort zone using a dark thread but it's ok...
Look here to find out about my UFOs...... UFO LIST

Out there FMquilting

My FRIDAY SEWING

I have had a good, hot, long day sewing with friends. Actually it was with the Kilmore Quilters all day sit n sew. 10am-10pm..
I didn't know what to take with me to work on. I go into my workroom and have a look around. I grabbed a box with a long time UFO in it. There were parts of 3 projects using the same fabrics. All the fabric is in there. Enough for borders, backing and binding. All the blocks had been done. I just had to work out how to put it all together.
How do I make a quilt with these

There were crossroads to Jehrico blocks originally made when I was in the Sunbury group. Each block was made by a member in the group. As with any group project all the blocks turn out different sizes. Once trimmed square there was 1/2" difference btween them. I added purple borders to them to make them up to 12" blocks.
The smaller blocks were from an online SAL...  I added corner triangles in the background fabric to the blocks to make them up to size.
Blocks all measure 12" now

and then there were the filler blocks. Hour glass and half square triangles.
I got them all to fit together and I am so happy with it.
Blocks joined with the filler blocks

Then I got the borders added.
Ready for quilting

On Monday I will get it basted ready for quilting..
This is also a project on my UFO resolutions list...
I got to it sooner than expected but I do have a special person in mind to give it too.

I really don't know why I never got around to quilting it. I am fairly sure it will be finished soon...
I can't believe it has been packed away since August 2014....

YIPPEE IT's DONE

I am so glad my baby shawl is done.
I have been working hard on a long lost UFO and crochet project. Luckily it is a project that I will be gifting very soon.
Look, it's finished..... And it's beautiful

It took me 3 hours to get round each of the last 14 rows. Yes, I did 14 rounds to use up all the yarn. Why have left overs. That's a lot of crochet.. The plain centre took 3 balls and the outside lacy edge took 3 balls. As I was working on the last round I was wondering if there was enough yarn. I was getting closer to the end and worrying a bit. Yes, there was enough.
Look how much of the ball was left. Not even enough for a pair of mittens so I am one happy nan.
14 rounds of lacy edge took 3 hours each round. Not much left over yarn...

I can't wait to see a little baby girl laying on this.....
On the lavender bush waiting for baby to be born

Linking with SLOW STITCHING SUNDAY even though mine is crochet.
I think it is a great OPAM too.

My Sunday slow crochet.

I am still working on my UFO project no 4.  The baby shawl.
It is slowly growing. I have finished the centre, which took 3 balls of 3ply Big Baby (Patons). I use this yarn for all my baby projects. Either 3 or 4 ply...
Well I was glad to see the centre done.
The last few centre rounds took 1 hour but they are done

Now I am working on the lacy edge. It seems to be taking forever. I thought 1 hour for a round was slow but this edge is taking me about 3 hours. Of course I have to get up every know and then for a stretch and drink. So it is SLOW going. I need a total of 13 rounds...
Each lacy round takes me 3 hours

I'm linking up with Kathy for Slow Stitching Sunday. Even though it is crochet...

HAPPY NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

No resolutions for me but something I want to try this year to help me with my UFO's is a list.
I saw it on someone's blog last year and it was such a great idea... For the life of me I can't find where I saw it. If anyone knows what I'm talking about please let me know where it started.
The way it works you write down a list of 12 UFO projects. On the 1st of every month pull a number out of a jar. Or in my case I rolled 2 dice. The project next to that number is the one to work on that month.....
Firstly, I found this printable and thanks to Kelly for allowing me to post about it. I have included the link to print your own.
RESOLUTIONS UFO PRINTABLE
Now for me to fill it out and start my first UFO project for 2016.
Secondly, here is my list
My list of UFO's is on the wall...

Thirdly, the dice have been rolled..... NUMBER 4......
No. 4..... Crochet round baby shawl...

Time to get my crochet hook out and finish this shawl. The stars are on my side as I do need it finished for the new granddaughter due soon....

This is where I left it when I stored it away...

If anyone wants to join in just email and let me know.
I don't know how to do a linky thingy but hopefully there might be one or two bloggers that want to join in. I have put the list on my left hand side bar with each months number to do...

If I find out who did it last year I might be able to join them this year
