More postcards from USA..

My post cards are slowly coming through to me. These are what I have received lately.

From MONA

from LAURA

from PAM

Unfortunately I have to wait for my parcel with my Autumn mug rug and my panel quilt top. USA says Australia isn’t allowing parcels to be sent and others are told USA is refusing to send to Australia.

Whatever the reason the mail has been slow everywhere. Hopefully I might get mine for Xmas. It will be a nice surprise when they do turn up. The ladies in th USA are phoning their post office regularly to check. As soon as they can send they will..

Fabric postcards.

I have had a few questions and interest about how I make my postcards.

Hope this helps a little.

I start by cutting a piece of bag wadding 6.5” * 4.5” (this will be trimmed later) to 6*4”

I design my picture and assemble by doing QAYG method.

For the ship one I used a solid background. But had fun making the waves.

I made thin bias strips for the waves.

I cut an inch strip of fabric, sew wrong sides together, insert the bias bar, twist so the seam is underneath, iron with a hot iron, trim the excess seam allowance back so it is hidden under the bias and it’s now ready to place on your card or sew wherever you want…..

Working out where to place the waves.

I had fun placing the waves before I did a stay stitch around the edges. I haven’t stitched them down anywhere else.

I had a scrapbooking stamp in the draw so I stamped on to calico

I attached my button before adding the backing. Spray basted the back of the card, attached the calico, trimmed to 4*6” … be careful where you cutting. As you can see I have chopped of part of my ship to get a better balance overall.  Chose a fancy satin stitch on my sewing machine.

All ready to write a message and post. I sealed them in a plastic sleeve (for cards) and they mailed with no trouble.

Postcards & Mug rug swaps.

I have enjoyed being in the QATW swaps. It is fun and exciting to receive special surprises in the mail.

I received a lovely fabric postcard from Tracey.. Cosmcat…

This is the one I am sending off to my partner. It is for October.. Spring time..

I am also making an Autumn mug rug for a swap too. I went with the lovely colours of Autumn.

I made a maple leaf block into a mug rug. But also made the backing in a light coloured fabric so I could write on it as a postcard.

Postcard Swap 2

I can’t help myself. I love being part of a swap. This one will last for 12 months. Yep, 12 months. Each month we are to make a special fabric postcard that relates to the month that it should arrive to the recipient. It is started in the USA so they have listed their holidays and celebrations but I can do ones relating to Australia.

I have made a list and have made my first 4.

May - Mother’s Day

A fresh, beautiful pot of flowers. Something I don’t get very often. I printed the background fabric with the script before planning the flowers.

June - Queens birthday

A beautiful photo of the young Queen Elizabeth. Embellished with lace, diamonds, pearls & flowers.

I also printed this photo of the Queen too.

July - Xmas in July

A beautiful snowflake behind the Xmas tree with presents too. This is something I haven’t experienced but would love to one day.

August - Winter...

Playing/ caught in the rain

I have kept one item the same on all the postcards. The month button label. I had a packet of them from my scrap booking days. At least they are getting used now.

Here they are all together.

Now I am ahead at the moment I will have a break before making the next ones. Time to think of the layouts and backgrounds.

This is getting back to the oldPen Pal days. How nice is it to receive Mail in your letter box.

QATW and POSTCARD SWAP .....

I joined in with QATW and signed up for a postcard swap. I made 5 postcards and sent them over the seas to the USA and a local one to Brisbane. It was fun to make them.

I only took a photo part way through while I was making them and not when they were completed. Hopefully I can get a photo when they arrive at their new home. These are the ones I made. I decided not to post the selvedge edge one. That’s still sitting here for the next swap.

I decided to stamp a postcard symbol on the calico and attach to the back of the card. A special message from Australia...

I did a fancy pattern around the edge..

When I got back from my special little holiday I had these waiting for me...
I must have known not to send the selvedge one as someone else was making them too. And I received this one from.  Robin - RsIslandCrafts - Florida
Robin made hers with card stock on the back with a little message .

Then I got this one from Sheila... in Colorado.
Sheila left the back empty so I can write a message and send it on to someone else. How cute.

The last one I received was from LaDawn in Texas.
How sweet are these hearts. I think they were made around Valentine’s Day. The backing was made with calico and was posted as a normal postcard. It was stamped and arrived as normal. The postmark was dated 22 Feb 2021. It was here by 12 March 2021. Not long at all.

This just turned up from Laura..

I do know that Tracey has received mine in Brisbane Qld

but the others have not received them in the USA.  Mine were posted on the 16 February 2021. How long will they take...

Candis has received this one I made for her. I added these cute felt Easter shapes.

This was a cute owl bow tie block I had left over from my quilt. There are lots of gold beads sewn on too.
This is the one Laura received.

This one was sent to Tracey. Do you like the eye I added..

Then here is the one that Veronica received
