More for Aussie Heroes.

I decided to start on a few UFO’s in my cupboard.

I had quilted these 2 quilts a while back but never did any more. The pile just grew. These are allocated to Aussie Heroes when one day a suitable recipient will come up on the list. Aussie Hero Quilts

Starting to trim.

Trimming no 1 quilt.

Trimming no 2 quilt.

Back of no 1 quilt.

The front of both quilts are very similar

The binding is yet to be cut and attached. This will happen soon.

A quilt for an Aussie Hero.

After zoom the other Saturday I continued in my sewing mood and spent the day trimming, quilting and binding a quilt for an Aussie Hero. AUSSIE HERO QUILTS

I had this quilt made for quite a while and it had already been basted.

I trimmed it even. I’m not sure why I did this before I quilted as I normally trim after quilting. A brain fade moment.

I did a simple quilt in the ditch diagonally and horizontally.

Next was attaching the binding.

All by machine.

This quilt and laundry bag have been sent off to a HERO on deployment.

ANZAC DAY...... AUSSIE HERO QUILT & LAUNDRY BAG IN THE POST

So here are my piles of blue scrap fabrics.
I am doing strip, QAYG piecing.
This will be made into an Aussie Hero quilt.
Unfortunately it didn't use up many scraps.
I still cant close the blue tub but I am happy with the end result.

Here is the finished quilt. I love the look of it but not sure if I like doing QAYG this way.
It has the binding on the front but not the back. The seams were very bulky.
The recipients name has been covered up for privacy.
There were a few mistakes as I had cut the blocks out to sew a certain way then I decided to follow a different tutorial which didn't match the cutting/sewing measurements. The seam lines don't match but are still ok. It was a learning curve for me. I am still trying to find a QAYG method I enjoy and that works or me. This is now in the mail...

Look at this fantastic backing fabric I have used.
It shows all the icons landmarks in Sydney & Melbourne

I have sent off this Laundry bag too. Obviously the recipient is named Bob..

AHQ THANKYOU

Our patchwork group made and posted overseas more than 50 laundry bags to our service men and women. It boosts their sports, brightens their day and shows that people back home care about them.

It's not very often we get a reply but one day I received this.
How thrilled was I to pass it on to the group.

This is why we do it.

Good morning Jo.

My name’s PTE Annette.  I am currently deployed to Malaysia, –rotation, as the Finance Clerk. I have been here since 03 Sep and I am due to return to Australia 30 Nov.

Firstly, I must apologise for taking so long to send a reply, but the work here has been keeping me extremely busy. I am writing to thank you for the beautiful laundry bag that you all made and sent over for us to use – they have certainly come in very handy! I selected the lovely blue, black and white abstract design, which caught my eye over any of the others.  I am quite artistic and dabble in a number of creative pursuits, so this is probably why I selected this one.

I really appreciate all of the wonderful things that are sent over to all of our deployment locations, as I’m sure all other personnel do. It is such a lovely thought and a wonderful feeling to receive something from home, that was made from the heart and is so useful!

Could you please pass on my thanks and kind regards to all of those involved with the project. I wish you all every happiness and I karma comes back to you ten-fold…as you all deserve great things for the kindness you’ve shown. I don’t currently have a picture to send through, but I will endeavour to get something to you in the immediate future.

Take care and thank you again!

Kind regards

Annette

An Aussie Hero thankyou.

This is the reason I make and send off these quilts.

Dear Jo,
Wow, the words 'thank you' just don't seem nearly enough.

On opening the box today I felt so honoured and very blessed to have received such an amazing quilt and laundry bag. It is everything I could have hoped for and more. I absolutely love it and will treasure it forever. I cannot wait to take them home to show my husband and children. I Skyped home straight away to show them, because I was so excited. I have also shown all of my colleagues. I am working with a number of people from other nations, who were all amazed and some even quite envious. :)

Thank you also for the gorgeous handmade Christmas decoration, which I look forward to proudly displaying back home on the tree next year. This year though I will place it above my bed, while I will use the others to decorate my office. Thanks also for the fantails I will enjoy them as will my work buddies, and we will also enjoy guessing the celebrity too.

Thank you for making these amazing quilts and laundry bags for those of us lucky enough to be serving our country. Words can not express our gratitude and how much it means. Your son would be very proud.

Yes you not only brightened my day, but my week and my month. I also love the photo on the card. It did bring a smile to my face. There is also a drive on the way to Dubbo from Canberra where there is this kind of paddock art,  and it is really a lot of fun. What a great idea to turn it into a card.

I wish you and yours a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic
2018. Mine will be very different this year, maybe there will be snow.

Thank you again, from a very happy and proud owner of an amazing hero quilt. You are a very clever lady.

Warmest regards,
Nadine

We are the ones to thank all our service men and women.

Aussie Hero special blocks... & a thankyou...

W don't send of quilts to the Aussie Heroes for any special attention. We do it to support the special people who are out there protecting us.
I was lucky enough to receive a thankyou for my Busta quilt..
My Hero also shared it on Facebook (which I am not) .. But it was also put on the Aussie Hero blogpost.
If you want to read some thankyou messages from the heart have a read and look at this post.

Here is Sarah with her quilt... I think she likes it.

THANK YOU TO OUR HEROES...

I made these fun Aussie animal blocks. They measure 10" and will be trimmed to 9.5".
I liked the look of them in what I hope seems like it is a photo.
Remember years ago we had the instant polaroids.
That was my aim.
Look at my toes poking out..

I was out with the measuring so they became straight on squares.

And the group of blocks

Next I worked on some cute Poppy blocks.
They measure 7"

MOLLI SPARKLES, AUSSIE HEROES & some quilts @ AQC in Melbourne

I was lucky enough to to be able to go to the AQC in Melbourne at the Exhibition Buildings at Carlton Gardens today. It was great to see so many people there. All shopping, talking, meeting friends and viewing the quilts....
I meet with the wonderful MOLLI SPARKLES. He was responsible for organising the Hashtag blocks for SEWING FOR SYDNEY. He was sent over 2000 blocks and was able to make 14 quilts for the families of the tragic event....
I had a very interesting chat with him about what I have been through and yes, there were tears. I will be following his blog for a long time. A very nice person indeed even though he didn't have any glitter on his face. He did have his blue splarkle hat though........ Say hi if you are there.... Thankyou...
Read about his venture here....     http://www.mollisparkles.com/2014/12/help-for-sydney-heroes.html

Just look at the HALO he has around him. Beautiful..
I love the quilt to the right. It might make a great Rainbow Scrap Challenge project....

I was spending my day helping out the wonderful people at AUSSIE HERO QUILTS....
Jan-Maree has coordinated over 4000 quilts to be sent to servicemen and women who are deployed.
The feeling you get with helping out is so gratifying. I am so proud to be part of this group.
I did a lot of talking and for anyone that knows me that's nothing unusual.... If Jan-Maree gets a few extra helpers then this was a success... 2 of my friends and I have made and sent off about a dozen quilts and we have all enjoyed the process.
To read more about it go to the blog..........     http://aussieheroquilts.blogspot.com.au
Here we have..... Caroline, Jan-Maree, Sue & yours truly....(haha) me JO

Here are just a few of the quilts that were displayed at the show.
I liked this quirky quilt. It made me laugh. THE QUILT POLICE.... just love it...

This one won the TRUE BLUE challenge

But this one was my favourite. It looked like a painting... AMAZING.

I couldn't put up all the photos but if you get a chance get in there and have a great day shopping and looking....

I saw so many friends, chatted until my throat was dry, of course, spent some money and bought a heap of goodies.
Overall I had a fantastic day.
Isn't it funny, the only way to catch up with a friend who lives half hour from home is to meet in the city for a 5 minute chat. The day was worth it though... Thankyou everyone....
