Sandra's scraps

Sandra from my local quilt group donated to me for charity a whole pile of unwanted blocks.
She had made a pile of sting blocks, cut them and resend them into mixed blocks.
They looked very messy and she lost faith.

(Sorry, should have got a photo)

So I sat there one night and unpicked all the blocks. It left me with a great pile of string triangles. There was also a strip of matching fabric.

I packed them all into my retreat bag and got them out where I had room to play.
I put my thinking cap on and came up with the idea to pair them as half square triangles.
I used up all the fabric but not the blocks.

They ended up 10" blocks so now measures 40" * 60".
A great charity size.

I'm happy with this design. I also have all the odd bits left which will go towards another quilt one day.

This is the backing that I had donated as well
It matches perfectly.

The quilt is all basted ready for the quilting.

Convergence... Scrappy Strings

Okay,
My convergence quilt centre is now in one piece ......
What to do with it now.
I'll have to put my thinking cap on.
I want to make this into an AUSSIE HERO QUILT
But to work out how to make it longer..

This is where I got my inspiration from --- http://adventuresinquiltingandsailing.blogspot.com/2010/04/ricky-timms-convergence-quilt-workshop.html
It was a great help with the photos and instructions.

While I have been doing my stitching over the last couple of weeks I have been making string blocks.
These will be made into a string half square triangle block for CHARITY.
I will be working on these for a while.

These will be something I'll be showing my group and hopefully they will be joining  in too.

This was what I showed them on a weekend away.
EASY AND EFFECTIVE

Over the past 2 weeks I have been working on this quilt. It was started by a friend and it was to be a gift for Xmas. Well, it got a bit too much for her so it was passed on to me to finish. This is what I have done so far.

A good friend

A good friend of mine has been working on a quilt for quite a while. She has come to the realisation that she is not interested in machine sewing any more. So, I received a parcel in the mail. Included was a pile of fabric, some strips sewn together, large blocks cut and other blocks sewn again. What was I to do but get them all out and sort them out. Work out what she had in mind and go forward and finish it off for her. She is so special..
Here is what I got..... such lovely bright fabrics....

Oh my. What's in the box.... what a challenge.
Time to sor the box full of goodies out. Then work out what can I do with them. The aim is for something to make a king single quilt.
A box full of goodies. Fabric, strips, blocks, scraps and 1/2 square triangles.
Strips ready to be sewn

Fun colourful strips crosscut and sewn into half square triangle blocks.

The strips need cross cutting
The strips have been cross cut into 13.5" blocks.
Place the 2 blocks together after they have been placed in opposite directions. You will end up with fun half square triangles.
13" blocks to be sewn 1/4" around all sides and then cut diagonally.
Once the blocks have been cut diagonally this is what we have got.
These are the blocks that will be sewn together. SOMEHOW....
A 9.5" block

QAYG scrappy String Blocks for charity

I have seen on a few blogs people have been making blocks for charity and sending them to Jan.
http://sewmanyquiltstoolittletime.blogspot.com.au/search?updated-max=2016-02-03T04:31:00-08:00&max-results=7&reverse-paginate=true
So I got all my scraps together and sewed for a few hours on a couple of days..
This is what I ended up with.
28 QAYG scrappy string blocks
My daughter has dropped them off... I hope that they will be put to good use.
Here is what Jan has done with them.

December Block Lotto

I am part of a Block Lotto
It is a group that makes a set of designated blocks for the month. The amount of blocks gives you a ticket for each in the draw. You can win or not. Luck of the draw.
I have only recently joined this group. I use it for a bit of practice, participation and communication. Maybe I might even win some blocks to make a quilt. Let's hope.
This month was relatively easy and quick to do.
All we had to do was cut 2" strips, 3 white tone on tone & 3 printed.
Trim the block to 6.5" * 9.5".
Great for the Xmas build up.
These are my 6 sneak peek blocks.
