Dear Jane week 10

My next 2 Dear Jane blocks are done. 1 easier than the other. I got there though.

H8 was a bit more work. I appliquéd a circle larger than needed. I then cut it into quarters and added the centre cross.. I foundation pieced the hourglass units and added them to the centre.

G4 went together very easy. I was happy with this block.

More Dear Jane H9 & G 13

The next weeks blocks to be done are

H9.

I just had my nails done and found hand stitching hard. Therefore I couldn’t really hand appliqué the diamonds on so I went down the route of fpp. All machine done and I think it worked out ok. Quilted and ready to join to the next block in the row.

G13

This block was made years ago so I just had to quilt it.

Dear Jane change of plans

The Dear Jane sew along group I am part of started off making 1 block per week. I sewed F8 before that week started. Now they have changed the order of blocks and now plan to sew 2 a week.  So first up was

F4

H6  this block was a little tricky.

..

I had prepared this one so I could hand appliqué the the curved pieces.

then machined it together.

i am doing QAYG so once that was done I trimmed to 5”.
Yes, they finish at 4.5”

Dear Jane progress blocks..F6 & F8

I am on track for keeping up with the Dear Jane sew along.

F6 was made 10 years ago

so all I had to do was quilt it and join in to the one next to it in the row.

Next to make was F8. Out came the bag of cream scraps and a couple of hours later…… here it is.

Dear Jane more blocks. G7 & H7

I dug out my cream scraps and a fun piece of brown mushroom fabric to make my next block.

G7 pattern from Susan Gatewood is printed for for and I’m ready

The block is sewn, quilted and sashing put on.

The blocks in this row have been sewn together as well as the backing strip.

Next on to block H7. This one I just pieced. No papers needed. Quilted and sashes on too.

And here they are altogether so far

Dear Jane stitch along G7 & F7 & G6

I have completed the first two blocks in the stitch along.

Week 1 is block G7

I have decided to qayg and use scrappy squares for the backing.

Week 2 is block F7
All quilted and side sashing added

I will add the back brown sashings when I join the blocks into rows.
As this quilt needs a 1/2” sashing this works well for the qayg method.
I will have to think what to do when I come to the borders though.

The next week was made and here it is. Week 3 G6
This one was a bit of a challenge. It took a few hours. It’s not exact but the pattern allows for a few variances. The quilting has been done ready to sew into the row.

Dear Jane stitch along

2026 has seen me join in a Dear Jane stitch along. I started this quilt in 2016 back when I was sewing along with the Kilmore quilters. I moved away and didn’t continue with them but did make some blocks. It’s time they got a move on.

This is the book I am using

this is Jane Stickles quilt it is designed from

the shaded ones are the one I have completed
G7 was the first this stitch along was to do. I had already made it and I have now decided that I am going to work it as a QAYG. I am using all scraps browns/beige fabrics so the back will be really scrappy browns.

The second block on the list was F7. I hadn’t made this one but it is an easy one.

These blocks are an unfinished 5”. They are a mixture of pieced and appliqué. Lots of techniques will be used to make them but there are some great sites to follow for help

This is the one I was following
and a new one to me

Hand sewing some Dear Jane & Postcards I have received & made

I finally pulled out my Dear Jane box to see where I was up to. I started these blocks back in 2006. It’s time some more were done.

Here I have started 2 blocks to sit n hand sew on a cold winters day during lockdown.

I have 2 completed blocks

A3

B5

I am in a swap for fabric postcards.

Here are the ones I have received so far

And

The next 3 ,month has started and I have made a new postcard for August and September
Here is August for Bonita.

And September for Pam. They went in the mail this week. Let’s see how long they take to get there.

And because Maria never received her Queens birthday postcard for June which I mailed on 5th May before I went on holidays I sent her a new one.
This was going to Costa Rica

I received my card from Pam as well. It is so cute.

Another instalment of Dear Jane and I have caught up..

Yes, that's right... I have caught up....
Here are the Dear Jane blocks for
July... K6, H5, C12 & B2

August... K2, L2, M1 & M8

Somehow I have managed to have an extra number on my list.
Therefore you can say I am now ahead of schedule.
Here is G11 with the appliqué finished.

Like I have said before. I am not trimming these blocks until I have quilted them.
I have decided to do QAYG.
I won't receive the numbers of the next 4 until mid September.
I am so happy. I get a gold star now..

Hubby is due home tomorrow...

I'm back to sewing.

Thanks to all my friends checking up on me.
I was back at work this week and am totally exhausted.
I'd come home, take my brothers dog for a walk, eat tea, sit for a while then bed.
I am dog sitting for 2 weeks while my brother and hubby are away 4 wheel driving/camping through the Simpson Desert.

Friday night saw me finish off a few Dear Jane blocks that needed some hand appliqué.
The blocks for March were... F6, G10, A12 & D3.
Aprils blocks are I4, L7, K13 & B9.

I have decided not to trim them back to the 5". I think I am going to do QAYG and join them with the 1/2" sashings. This might help me to get it done.

I have fallen behind but I am catching up...

182 Solstice sewing with friends

This Friday night I am sewing away with my cyberspace friends. Here is what I'm up to.
My summer/winter solstice block is done. I am loving these colours. Thanks Mari. This was a quick and easy 12" block.. Block number 10.

I also managed to get the last Dear Jane block done for this month. 2 weeks before the next meeting date. I had a bit of fun with this block. Totally not done the same way as anyone else. My centre square is done like the 3 d Bow tie method. It is like a little pocket under each of the angled edges in the centre. Then the cream pieces were squares folded in half and sewn onto the background square. Next I turned back the folded edge and stitched down making a curve. Like the Cathederal windows. The centre of this block has a lot of fabric and thicknesses but it worked out very good.
