 Back to clearing out some blue scraps and finish off my oven mitts.

I got 2 made.

I did a little bit of sewing for a friend.. My double ended oven mitts. The request was for greys with a little bit of red... I love making these..
I stated out with scraps over the table..

And ended up with this..

Red scraps

My friend wanted me to make her some double ended oven mitts for her to give as gifts... These are my favourites. I love using them as they keep my hands and arms safe. But I enjoy making them out of my scraps even more.

She wanted RED...

I tipped out my scraps of fabrics. And wadding too..

I'm not the neatest of storage people. I don't like ironing until I'm ready to use it. I love playing with the little bits...

 All my scraps were sewn to wadding, just like QAYG. I kept sewing until the pieces were long strips and pocket size. Then I trimmed them to correct size..

 And they are finished. I am so happy with them...

Scrap happy Saturday yellows turn Aqua...

I have been following Angela for a few years now. I thought I was sewing along last year but when I searched my posts it was 2015... This is what I made back then in yellow.

Well I have run out of yellows and have back tracked to earlier this year and used up my aquas.

I am making double ended oven mitts again ready for the trade table at our quilt show. I hope that they will sell.

So here was today's sewing...

So that is 4 done now. I do hope I get more made....

The extra wadding I add in for the hands protection is a square of insulbrite wadding...

Last weekend I started sorting out my yellows tub and wondering what could I do you use it up. I wanted a project that could be finished and not just added to a pile of UFO's...

Start making some crumb block fabric on wadding...

Decision has been made. Mobile phone holders and double needle oven mitts.

I love using these oven mitts. I find that as soon as I make them they disappear for presents...

Do I add the flowers for a bit of decoration... mmmm I'll think on it. With or without ????

MY SANTA SACK SWAP

Back in June/July I signed up to be part of a SANTA Sack Swap.

We were assigned a partner then had to go about making 5 handmade gifts and a stocking/sack or tote to put the gifts in. These had to be done and posted by 25th November and not to be opened until XMAS day.

How hard was that. Having lots of presents sitting around for all that time.......

Here Is a sweet Mittens stitchery made into a table runner, 2 cotton knitted dishcloths, some tree ornaments and the large SANTA sack to put everything in.

Now someone else just has to fill it each year. How nice is that.......

 A cute square bag, a fabric bowl filled with lollies and a hot chocolate drink pack, a double ended oven mitt and pot holder. I know Mel loves buttons so I gave her a pack of wooden XMAS buttons and then made her a button necklace. If she doesn't want to wear it she can cut the string and have lots of buttons to sew on her projects.

I had a good day of sewing yesterday. The last day of scrappy blue January.

Measurements for my Double Ended Oven Mitt

There have been quite a few enquiries to the size of my mitts.

Here is an overall description of what I have done.

1. I cut a backing, wadding & patterned piece of fabric 31" * 7.5", 
2. I added an extra piece of INSULBRITE wadding ( 7.5" * 8.5" ) in the ends for protection.  
3. Then I layered and quilted it. Trimmed it to 7" * 30".
4. TO MAKE POCKETS
5. Cut 2 * patterned fabrics & backing pieces measuring 7" * 8"
6. Cut 3 binding strips at 7" * 2.5" wide. Attach to 2 top of pockets. 
7. With the 3rd make a loop and attach to centre of one side of the long quilted piece.
8. Layer pockets on each end of the long quilted piece. 
9. Cut each end in a curve shape
10. Make 80" of BIAS binding @ 2.5" and attach to oven mitt.

ALL DONE.
Hope these are easy enough to understand.

You can use up odd block, scraps or just one fabric for pockets and main piece.

Initial Heart Swap

I have completed my gift for the Initial Heart Swap over at Gone Stitchin' with Cheryll.
The person who receives this is a secret so her initials have been covered up.
I am yet to get a treat for her to enjoy.
Here is what I will be posting soon.
There is a heart shaped double ended oven mitt with initials on it, heart shaped pot holder, scissor fob with initials & hearts on it, a woven heart pouch & an envelope made out of a heart shape.
I hope that she will enjoy using them.

Scrappy Oven Mitts

I have spent my day making 2 more scrappy double ended oven mitts.

These are great to use. My one has been well used & I think it needs replacing.

One day I might just get a new one.

The black / grey one is a gift for my friend & 

the green one is for a friend who works at the local bank.

Then I decided to try some heart shaped pot holders.

I was given one of these years ago and I thought they were very cute.

I also used my scraps to get these done.

I know January is the blue month but I needed to get a gift done in another colour. They are still scrappy though.

Well, on Sunday I was busy finishing my Initial Heart Swap item.

I am making lots of double ended oven mitts and thought this was a useful gift.

Another busy day sorting through BLUE scraps for what is happening over at soscrappy.

I have now caught up with the blocks as well as sewing my crumbs as leaders & Enders for another oven mitt.

I have thought I might get started on those Xmas presents & Kris Kringle ideas.

If I make 1 or 2 a month it won't be such a rush at the end of the year.

So I have started making double ended oven mitts.
