What have I been up to since the last Zoom.

 Way back when Chooky had a Zoom. I didn’t get up as early as the previous time but it was still early for me. Hello ladies

I was doing some hand quilting on a very old UFO. This started 7 years ago. Anyway a few stitches is good. And enjoyed a coffee.

The next day it was oven cleaning time.

I used this new to me product and I’ll definitely be using it again. Sorry for the people that don’t like using chemicals but I loved this one.

My oven was disgusting and well overdue for cleaning. I would say it is my most hated housework job.

Here are the filthy before shots. The racks and glass you can’t see through

Put them in the bag, pour a little on the glass.

I ran out of the good stuff on the racks and only had a little bit left for the glass. Then had to use some of the usual spray for in the oven.

Flip the bag over every so often and 4 hours later 

Give them a rinse, bring them inside and was with soapy water and a miracle has happened …. 

NO SCRUBBING AT ALL.

It was worth the $10 and I will be buying some more for in the cupboard for next time.

Now back to knitting.

My friend did a knitted vest for a teddy bear? She added a little flower too.

I got all mine completed and they are now on the way to Jan Mac. She should get them very soon.

Today Mildura starts a 7 day lockdown and our cases have risen to 37 in 3 days. I’m not sure where this will lead as we already have 4 schools closed due to exposure. Just have to cross our fingers that we are safe.

JanMac has received my parcel and will distribute them accordingly.

ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM with Chooky, Make a Page Scrapbooking cyber weekend, lockdown, shopping and so much more

My Friday night wasn’t spent sewing with FNSI but I was thing of you all.

It was spent with my grandsons on MAKEaPAGE cyber scrap weekend. Their mum hadn’t been well with an attack of vertigo so I had them for the night to give her a break.  I worked with them making their own pages. I printed off some photos for them to use,  gave them a small album each for them to keep and brought out a heap of supplies. Our first challenge was ato make our interpretation of their page layout. The boys did good.

 Well, what a time we are once again having. A ZOOM day with Chooky and a bunch of wonderful ladies is always so cheerful, relaxing, supportive and productive (most of the time).

I started the morning, early for me, and joined in on Zoom. Yes, still in my pj’s too. I think I’m starting a trend. Just like on a real retreat. Hubby was still in bed and the grandsons were on their technology so I started off tying teabag strings. Sitting nice and quietly with a cup of coffee. The chatting always covers COVID talk. I was planning on a visit to the quilt shop and spotlight at some point in the day to buy a panel I required for a swap. The joke was I had better go when the shop opened as we never know what will happen with restrictions. So I took my time and about 10.30 showered and was ready to head off to shop.

 Then SNAP LOCKDOWN ANNOUNCED STARTING AT 1pm. Victoria is in lockdown again.  That was in 2 hours. 

Glad I was on my way to the shop. It took 15 minutes to get 3 kms. But I got there and to Spotlight too.  Bought a panel, which I cannot post here in case my swap partner is stalking and some other fabrics.  

Then off to the supermarket on the way home. Once again people thought that every shop would be closed so the queues, people, traffic and everything was a nightmare. I was in the supermarket queue for 20 minutes just to do my normal grocery shop. 

Home now, groceries un packed, lunch eaten and back to zoom.

I did something that I haven’t done on zoom time before. Hand stitched. I have had this pattern cut out for about 18 months. My friend has been working on hers and nearly finished so I thought I had better get mine done. Well, I finished the appliqué. 

I called it a day and went to cook dinner and relax. Here is our dinner. A lockdown treat.

I continued with my embroidery. Now they are done I only have to machine it all together.

Sunday I will be doing a repair job on one grandsons favourite toys. 

A head repair.

Then on to fix hubbies work jeans. He is a mechanic. I don’t want to throw them out and another pair damaged. There is still some life left in these.

Hopefully I might have some energy to get a scrap book page of my own done to join in with another challenge.

WOW. That was a catch-up of a post. Who would believe this is just one weekend. How could anyone think lockdown could be boring.

MILDURA has now got its first case of COVID in 15 months. All because of some idiots & the crowds at an AFL football game at the MCG in Melbourne. People don’t think this is serious. We have to sit and wait how this will spread. As for me I am just going to work and keeping my mask on, using lots of sanitiser and keeping away from everyone. I’m fortunate that the supermarket is next door to where I work. I don’t have to go into town at the moment..

I’ll be keeping safe and to myself.. UPDATES WILL FOLLOW.

How I spent my Friday night for FNSI & Saturday playing with scraps. Sorting my scraps into strips & crumbs, cutting 2.5” squares and preparing Fishy School blocks for my leader and Enders project. There are lots of blue scraps here hidden in the piles of mess.

UGLY FABRIC SWAP.. the other way

The swap I have been involved in has been great. You have seen the quilt I made with my UGLY fabric in the last post. Here is what I sent to my partner and what she did with it.

Our rules were. 

To use the fabric in the centre of the quilt and not just the border. It had to measure a minimum of 36” * 45”

 

Birthday fat quarter parcels & my BLOG BOOK

 My quilt group has a thing going on for any member that wants to take part. You put your name on the list at the start of the year , nominate a fat quarter you want and the year begins. My choice is BATIKs as I don’t have any. You get the list and each month at our gathering when it’s your birthday you receive fat quarter from everyone on the list. This year we have 17 on the list.

I have decided to make it fun and make a special gift wrapping for them.

Aren’t these fun. They are made out of one sheet of scrapbooking paper (a thick one). Then add a simple square to keep the top together. I have used this as the name tag too. 

I think they are cute... These ones were for the January members. We don’t have anyone in February so I can get a lot of them made during this month to be ahead of time.

MY BLOG BOOK.

I had last years blog posts printed into a book. I was so excited when it arrived in the Mail. It’s not as big as all the other years. Just goes to show I didn’t do many posts or much sewing through the COVID year.

I hve spent a lot of time making masks and some people have requested straps for the elastics so their ears dont hurt. Imade some for my husband to try. which he liked then wanting some for work. When he is wearing it with his hat you cannot even see it. So I made some pretty ones too.

The other week Annie from a group I belonged to a while agao asked if I wanted to join their ZOOM meeting. Of course I said YES. We had a great chat with lotsof laughs. It has been a while since I have soken to any of them. Annie did visit me in Mildura when she was on a holiday here a couple of yearsback. We enjoyed the day catching up

So my Bonnie Hunter Frolic came out and played. I had already started sewing sashings on then it was put away. I spent some time getting my head around it. Sewed the rest of the sashings, gave it an iron & hung it on the wall. I just love it. Now I have to get inspired to sew the borders.

Next thing that has been happening is a little secret but our quilt group has a miniature challenge happening. I couldn't get into it so wasn't going to participate. You know how you all have those beautiful fabrics you just don't want to cut into. Well, I did. I designed a small piece, started cutting then sewing. Wow I have finished it and love it too. I spent a Friday night scrapbooking with an online group I used to scrap with in person. Make a Page Scrapbooking with Kylie & Mel. They are on Facebook, which I am not. My daughter and grandson spent the night scrapping too. It was fun. This happens once a month where ther is chatting, scrapping, voting and a winner.. I haven't scrapped in quite a while so this was fun.

Next I had a play around with a fun little Maple block. I have always loved them and I was happy with how this one worked. Sometmes you just have to do something little for fun.

okay, so if you are still here - you are amazing - I finished my UFO project - the key holders. I love them and have some for gifts now. Very Happy.

A girl at work wanted a super hero mask for her $ year old son - Rhyder - His friend wears one and he felt like he was missing out so of course I had to help. I dragged out some scraps and made him 2..

Well after all this sewing I decided to clean my sewing machine. Boy did it need it. Look at the mess that was in there. It sews a lot better now

And today I had a lovely afternoon tea with Judy and friends for Breast Cancer National Awareness. Judy raises money for this charity and normally holds a retreat but a ZOOM was held today because of COVID restrictions. Have a look at her Blog... http://newsfromjude.blogspot.com/
