SPF & AHQ Laundry bags workshop and donation

Back in July my local quilt group SPF had a workshop day making AHQ laundry bags. We used my Mums souvenir tea towels for the fronts.

I have a message of where they were sent to cheer some troops up.

**** We've sent the bags off to Chaplain Bruce Hammond who is overseeing eastern states training for OP COVID ASSIST troops  to hand out.....he has been messaging frequently to say thanks to all involved in this generous support of those deployed on this task.

So thank you to all the helpers that contributed to these being made.

With warmest good wishes and appreciative thanks, AHQ*******

Here is the link for the instructions and tutorial for how to make them.

Lots of photos to follow. But some cute tea towels to look at…

Thanks to everyone that helped

FNWF, Chooky’s Zoom & a challenge top done.

I have been doing a little sewing over the past week but I really got into it on Friday night and sewed along with many others in FNWF.

https://stitchingcubbyhole.blogspot.com/2021/07/friday-night-with-friends.html

So here is what I was working on. My ugly fabric challenge.

I decided on a pattern to use most of my fabric with appliqué. So pattern was drawn out, ironed on to the background and then stitching began. The stitching made the shape stand out a bit better.

Look at all that I had left.

Of course, I had to make lots of 6.5” crumb squares for the background. They went on for a while.

This continued into Saturday where I went to an all day sit n sew with my quilt group. Only 5 of us turned up so it was a great little group with plenty of space.

Earlier in the week at our charity sewing night I got the girls making laundry bags for Aussie Hero Quilts and these continued on Saturday as well.

Projects worked on were a yoga mat bag, Bonnie Hunter mystery, Aussie Hero laundry bags, a fantastic quilt of houses (I can’t remember it’s name. Sorry Chris), mug rugs and my Ugly mystery.

We did have a great day. All packed up and on the way home I stopped and bought noodles for dinner. No cooking today. Unpacked the care, ate dinner, sat down again to sew and join Chooky and the gang for a ZOOM sewing night.

Using up my green scraps for the crumb crazy background blocks.

I got my Ugly quilt completed. It measures 37.5” * 64”

Can you see the pink mouse hanging from the balloon?

I was going to call it Mouse in the strawberry field but Janice said it reminded her of watermelons so now it might be MOUSE ESCAPING THE WATERMELON PATCH.

Thanks for a great day to all my sewing friends from far and near.

AHQ THANKYOU

Our patchwork group made and posted overseas more than 50 laundry bags to our service men and women. It boosts their sports, brightens their day and shows that people back home care about them.

It's not very often we get a reply but one day I received this.
How thrilled was I to pass it on to the group.

This is why we do it.

Good morning Jo.

My name’s PTE Annette.  I am currently deployed to Malaysia, –rotation, as the Finance Clerk. I have been here since 03 Sep and I am due to return to Australia 30 Nov.

Firstly, I must apologise for taking so long to send a reply, but the work here has been keeping me extremely busy. I am writing to thank you for the beautiful laundry bag that you all made and sent over for us to use – they have certainly come in very handy! I selected the lovely blue, black and white abstract design, which caught my eye over any of the others.  I am quite artistic and dabble in a number of creative pursuits, so this is probably why I selected this one.

I really appreciate all of the wonderful things that are sent over to all of our deployment locations, as I’m sure all other personnel do. It is such a lovely thought and a wonderful feeling to receive something from home, that was made from the heart and is so useful!

Could you please pass on my thanks and kind regards to all of those involved with the project. I wish you all every happiness and I karma comes back to you ten-fold…as you all deserve great things for the kindness you’ve shown. I don’t currently have a picture to send through, but I will endeavour to get something to you in the immediate future.

Take care and thank you again!

Kind regards

Annette

Knitting & crochet with scraps

My diagonal crochet blanket is finished.
EXCEPT
for all the ends to sew up...

I have done a little more on this Knitted Scrappy square. I still haven't really got the pattern in my head but I will get there. It is a great use of scraps though.

Phyllis has made another laundry bag for AUSSIE HEROES.
They have a fun fabric with playing cards all over them. Perfect for one of the guys.
This brings the total to 57 made.

These tops were made by other members in our patchwork group.
I have "bagged" & quilted all 3.
All ready to give to the kids..

Charity makes are always fulfilling..

AUSSIE HERO LAUNDRY BAGS

Sunraysia Patchwork Friends have been busy.....

The wonderful girls from the Sunraysia Patchwork Friends have been busy sewing laundry bags for our Rifle Company in Butterworth.... check this out...
They were received in the mail and the Chaplin TROY sends a very big "THANKYOU"

Our first project charity night at the group.

Barb thought she came for a visit that night.
But
She really was a great help. Barb has sewn for Aussie Heroes before and new exactly what to do.
Thankyou you Barb for all your help.
I know you were here for other reasons. Just look at it as a distraction.

Her are all the bags on the table ready to be bagged up and put in the post.

All pegged on the fence ready for photos...

This is why we make these bags. To support our service people and remind them we are thinking of them.  Thankyou to the ladies of Sunraysia  Patchwork  Friends for putting in such a great effort with the grand total of 56 bags..

Can you please pass on a huge thank you to  Jo Butterfield for the great LBs.

This also goes to the whole group that made them and supported this great cause....
