Some baby knitting

I occasionally knit some baby items for charity. I made a premie jacket

And beanies.

 They just needed sewing up.

I have a friend that loves knitting and passed these on to me.

Look at them all.

Now I’m dropping them off to another friend to give to Jan Mc from Oz Comfort Quilts and the Northern Hospital.

I have started a new Tea Bag scarf

I really enjoyed making the last scarf so I have started another one. I have a lot of strings now and I need to get them knitted up.

I use 40 sts on 4.5 mm needles and knit for about 2 metres (6 1/2 foot)

All I need to do now is to tie them together and roll into a ball.

Do you like my stitch protectors I put on the end of my needles to stop the stitches falling off. I bought these in Japan last year. As I am going again this year I might buy some more. I think they are fun.

Another special Happy birthday to my friend Christine.

Christine is celebrating her birthday on a special holiday with her family so I had a lovely phone call with her.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTINE.

Her gift has to wait to be sent so she is home when it arrives.

I have been knitting with teabag strings and finished her scarf.

It measures 2 metres long. It weighs 38grams. And used approximately 3,230 teabag strings.
Of course it depends on the size of the strings. Some are longer than others. This was calculated on 85 strings per gram. I used 4.5mm needles and 40 sts. Then just knit until it reaches about 2 metres long.

Look how lovely it looks.

It is lovely and washed up so soft too.

Time to wrap it up and get it in the post.

Knitting more Bunny Snuggles - updated

Oh here it is. I hadn’t got any further than the title.

So I love making little gifts for babies. I came across this great pattern for knitting Snuggle Bunnies.

I started making them one day on zoom the other week and I just kept knitting. I can get one done of an evening. All I need to do is to sew them up and put on their little faces.

This is one I made from a different yarn. I am happy with it so I’ll make some more.

I have tried some different yarns but this is my favourite. It is so soft.

I have this yarn I am going to use up. This is what I used to make face washers out of.
Chenille. They still come out soft but a bit thicker.

I pick up yarn when it is on sale. The last 2 balls I got from the op shop. Brand new and only $1.00 each.
I get 2 bunnies out of the chenille and only 1 from the giggles.

You can get the pattern from here…. https://www.lionbrand.com/products/knitting-pattern-bunny-blanket-buddy-1

It’s been a month and what have I done?

Yes, the title says it all.

My last post was a month ago. It isn’t because I haven’t done anything but my motivation is lacking. I have been reading posts but not doing any myself. So her is a long overview of what I have been up to. There might be some more posts about a few things if I feel up to it.

First up back in July I went down to Melbourne and caught up with some friends to see the stage show 9-5. It was great but the the sound wasn’t quite right.

Over the next 2 days I attended the Melbourne Quilt & Craft fair. It was wonderful and I did a bit of cash damage.

It was good to see this Sashiko quilt because it is the one I did a class on a quilting cruise with Jane MacDonald. I have not done much of it but I think it is time to get this of the shelf. I think I have most of the hexies done.

A little while later, when hubby returned from his around Australia trip, we headed back to the Macedon Ranges for a weeks break together. We caught up with a great friend and enjoyed the day together. We had lunch at The Top of the Range Cafe, a very special place for us, did the tourist walk through Kyneton and did a drive by of the filming and building sites in Gisborne for the the tv show THE BLOCK.

The main reason for the break was for me to attend the Kilmore Kwilters 25th Anniversary luncheon. I was part of this group for many years before I moved away. It was fantastic to see them all again.

I then spent a sewing day with the Gisborne group but forgot to get a photo. I do miss those Mondays. The week had come to an end and the locals came out by our cabin to say good bye. They were very happy grazing in the morning while we packed up our car and headed home.

On the sewing front I have done very little. I have been working on placemats for charity. We make them for Sun Assist to give to meals on wheels recipients at Christmas time. We have now made about 60 but would like another 100 by end of November. I am not sure we will end up with that many though. The girls are getting a bit burnt out. I haven’t got a photo of them all but here are some in progress.

Then I tried to crochet a little beanie. It didn’t take long but the yarn isn’t very soft.

Next I knitted 2 little snuggle bunnies. I am yet to fill the head and embroider the faces. My concentration span hasn’t been great of late.

I have now found a great ginger biscuit that my hubby likes so I have to make a batch every weekend. They are full of spice and real ginger chunks. I bake them a little longer as he likes the darker colour and them being hard. Better to have with coffee. The batch makes about 36 small biscuits.

Ingredients

  • 200 g plain flour
  • 2 tablespoon dry ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda (bicarb)
  • 115 g Butter
  • 115 g castor sugar
  • 30 g golden syrup
  • 250 g uncrystallised ginger diced

Preparation steps

  1. Preheat oven to 170 deg
  2. Place 200 g plain flour2 tablespoon dry ginger and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda (bicarb) in bowl and mix
  3. Set aside.
  4. Cream together 115 g castor sugar & 115 g Butter then add 30 g golden syrup and mix.
  5. Add 150g - 250g uncrystallised ginger diced (to your liking)
  6. Add flour mix. Beat until mixed.
  7. Roll teaspoon of mix into a ball and flatten with your hand. Bake in 170' preheated oven for 12-15 minutes. I check mine from about 14 minutes so they don’t burn and they turn out hard and crunchy.    Cookies will harden on cooling.

We also love these Parmesan crisps and as my brother was coming for a visit I made some for our snack.
I sent him on his trip with a batch too.

So that’s about it. Yesterday at my sewing group I actually got out a ufo which is about 8 years old and worked on it. When I unpack that bag I will take some photos and do a post. Today I am going to do some hand hexie work. ( these are nearly finished too).

Have a great week every one.

Tea bags, tea bags and more tea bags strings.

I received some happy mail this week. It must be tea bag string week. Thanks everyone for your help. I probably use about 6 or 7 tea bags a week so it is slow going for me but with others collecting and mailing them to me I have some knitting to do.

Thanks Susan

Jindi

From my niece Jacqueline

Murray, my brothers neighbour.

Look at all the different colours. This scarf will be lovely. Now I’d better get knitting and I know someone who would love to wear one of these scarves. It will be a Xmas gift for a special lady.

My past week.

Well, here is another long awaited catch up post. I don’t seem to be able to keep up lately. I’m not sure if it’s inspiration I need or what. Anyway, here  are a few things.

At my Saturday sit n sew I made a pin cushion/bin tidy to go beside my chair. This was a tutorial night workshop our group had while I was away in March. I finally got to do mine. I am very happy with how it worked out.

On Monday we had our daughter and family over for dinner as it was her birthday later in the week and she was going to be working. So we had a lovely night together.
Of course there was a little cake

Never too old for birthday cake.

Our grandson made dessert. Berry fruity dream sorbet in the Thermo. He is 13, now taller than me and did it all by himself while I watched over his shoulder. He did well. Yes I am loving the Thermo.

I hadn’t been feeling well and had left work early so nothing special was made. The following day I wasn’t feeling the best and stayed home again. Spent some time knitting my teabag strings
Donated tea bags

Collection from work

All the tags are off

The strings are ready to tie together.

Where the knitting was

Where the knitting is now

I had a painful Tuesday night so off to the ER on Wednesday morning. To find out I was being admitted with diverticulitis. Oh so painful.

The wards were full so this was my new home for 2 days. The short stay ward.

When I could finally have a meal that I could keep down without any pain I was allowed home. My meal. We always get told to not have too much salt. Oh boy. That soup and mash was hard to swallow. I think they used the whole salt container. I did mange to eat it without any other trouble though.

I WAS ALLOWED HOME.
I had some beautiful flowers delivered by a friend

So here we are on Saturday and I am joining in with Chooky on zoom. I was supposed to be away at a quilt retreat so I am very happy to join in on zoom. I am sewing away with my little hexie flowers.

Well that’s it for this week. Here I was thinking I hadn’t done much but reading this I know I have done plenty. I’m hoping to go to work for a short day and see how I manage.
Thanks for all your caring support and messages.

What have I been up to since the last Zoom.

Way back when Chooky had a Zoom. I didn’t get up as early as the previous time but it was still early for me. Hello ladies

I was doing some hand quilting on a very old UFO. This started 7 years ago. Anyway a few stitches is good. And enjoyed a coffee.

The next day it was oven cleaning time.

I used this new to me product and I’ll definitely be using it again. Sorry for the people that don’t like using chemicals but I loved this one.

My oven was disgusting and well overdue for cleaning. I would say it is my most hated housework job.

Here are the filthy before shots. The racks and glass you can’t see through

Put them in the bag, pour a little on the glass.

I ran out of the good stuff on the racks and only had a little bit left for the glass. Then had to use some of the usual spray for in the oven.

Flip the bag over every so often and 4 hours later

Give them a rinse, bring them inside and was with soapy water and a miracle has happened ….

NO SCRUBBING AT ALL.

It was worth the $10 and I will be buying some more for in the cupboard for next time.

Now back to knitting.

My friend did a knitted vest for a teddy bear? She added a little flower too.

I got all mine completed and they are now on the way to Jan Mac. She should get them very soon.

Isn’t this little pig cute

Today Mildura starts a 7 day lockdown and our cases have risen to 37 in 3 days. I’m not sure where this will lead as we already have 4 schools closed due to exposure. Just have to cross our fingers that we are safe.

JanMac has received my parcel and will distribute them accordingly.
