The next round on my Round Robin. Braids

Omg, punishment plus. The next round was to do a braid.

I tried a practice block or two to decide on the size. Well it ended up being cut 1” strips.

I made the strips and attached the 2 sides but forgot about planning the corners.

So now that was a challenge. I didn’t want to unpick the ends of the sides so I had a play.

The corners are different and are not completely correct or even but I made them work and the little one that ends up with this quilt won’t mind.

I am so happy this round is done. It has made the quilt heavy so let’s hope the next round is. Quick, light and easy one.

A puzzling block - more photos

Our group had a fun tutorial night. It was to make a toy puzzle block. These are fun to play with but fiddle to make. They are easy enough to make though once you get your pieces all pinned on in the correct place. Now that was fun!!! Choosing your fabrics was the hardest.

I had made one many years ago and thought I’d be smart to make it with different animals but all the colours seemed to blend and it didn’t look too exciting.

This time I added brighter colours. I am still sewing it together.

Here is a YouTube tutorial of how to make it.

And it is getting done….

OOPS I forgot to add the finished photos…
Here it is all finished now

And I have another set of blocks to stitch up.

Mmm what fabrics to use this time. Do I use plains or prints or novelties or a theme?

I’ve had some quilts quilted for me.

I am so lucky. A lady from my quilt group offered to quilt my quilts for me. She wanted the practice and I wanted them done. Win, win. And yes, I gave her some cash too but the charity quilts are being done for free.

My quilts that were from the QAYG panel swaps are now quilted and only need to be trimmed and binding on

So the first one has been trimmed

And the binding is now done

It looks so pretty.

I received this panel from Mona from QATW. Thank yo Mona. I do love it.
I can’t believe I received this back in November 2021

A quick post

It was great to see the email come through from Chooky for an evening zoom for the Scrub Stitchin gals.

I had a newly quilted quilt sitting ready for hand sewing the binding down. I got my washing on, leftover dinner reheated and the heater on. On to zoom to stitch and chat away. It was a small group but great conversation. I got 2 sides sewn down.

Chooky has a new logo for the zoom girls called CHOOKSHED STITCHERS. here

It was also FNSI with Wendy. I have linked up here

Progress on my Round Robin

I have fallen behind with my round robin challenge. Yep, 2 months behind. Here is where I was up to.Mays border was to be a pieced border and the next round for June is a braid. Mmmmmmmm.

Ok. I am using scraps. Red, white & black and I have the idea for my pieced border.

I have decided on a rough size. Pulled some scraps and started to sew the strips together.

All the crosscuts are done. Do I have enough pieces.

Sewing the crosscut strips together. This is working.

Looks so much better trimmed.

Top and bottom borders are on. I’m liking this.

The borders are attached. Now to work out the corners. This is taking longer than expected.

So I have worked out the corners. So far so good.

It was late at night when I took this photo. It is a bit dark but so far so good.
I’m not sure if I like the bottom right hand corner. I’ll think about it over night.

Next border is a braid.

Another baby quilt top finish - for a girl this time

I needed a quick baby quilt so wanted a easy design. I always spend so much time trying to decide a design until I was reading Little Penguin quilts. Diann had made a quilt she called Masala quilt. I could see the blocks made with fabrics I had.out came some pretty strips of chenille, some leftover hot pink and some strips from a baby jelly roll.

Blocks are made and we’re super quick

The blocks are laid out

All sewn together,

And basted. Now for the quilting.

This now measures 36” * 49”

A little bit of knitting - dishcloths

I just wanted a change from sewing for a bit. Out came the knitting needles again. I have made many dishcloths over  the years and love this site.. Free, easy knitted dishcloths

I found 2 balls of this cotton and I think I might get 3 cloths out of it. I have fun looking for all the designs. Pinterest also has some great designs.
