Red curved log cabin is done.

Catching up on my blocks ..
I hadn't done RED

I covered my table with my scraps and got stuck in.

Time to trim up....

but here it is..

Here are my 6 all together.

With the help of friends while away on retreat I came up with the idea to border it in strings about 3 1/2" wide. These colours will match the blocks around the sides to the corresponding blocks.
These 6 blocks will make a quilt about 46" x 66"..

My butterflies are all caught up too.

Green logs, crumbs and scraps.

I have been making curved log cabin blocks for quite a while.
I started about 3 years ago. Not many have been made so I am back on the line getting them done each month.
Here is my green block.
The green strips are cut at 1 1/2" and the creams are cut at 1". This block measures 21".

My scrappy green crumbs have been stitched together to make a lovely spring BUTTERFLY.

I'm linking up with Angela for her So Scrappy Saturday

There are so many colourful projects being done.
Have a look at all the people that have linked up.

BOM SIGNS UPS & a great start to the NEW YEAR.

Deana, who I have been following for a few years now, has this great SAL going on.
You choos the BOM you want to work on.. Sew away and each month link up and shadow others what you are doing.
Deana has a great selection she is doing herself so you could SAL with her too.

Link ups are 2 times a month and sign ups close on January 15.
So go along, have a read and join in.

I loved making these curved log cabin blocks a few years back.
They use up the tiniest strips. Some are less than an inch.
Have a look at this post to see more about them.

I want to get back to some more of these butterfly blocks. They are great for kids quilts, gifts and charity makes. Also, a great way to get rid of more scraps.

Here is the tutorial I followed that Joanne has done.

I also sew along with SO SCRAPPY

THIS MONTH IS RED.

I am on holidays still so hopefully I'll get some sewing in and make a start.

If I set aside 1 project a weekend I must just get some done.

FNWF & SCRAP HAPPY SATURDAY & PET PROJECT SHOW

My Friday night was spent with my daughter doing a little machine & hand stitching. Spending time together was the best and more important.
We were celebrating my anniversary on Thursday and my birthday on Saturday. It was a good time spent together....

And this is what I got finished on Saturday for
Scrap Happy Saturday
My curved LOG CABIN

My Yellow casserole carrier
And a coaster made from the centre circle. These might go to the trade table or kept for gifts.

Happy pinks today

Today was my time to work with my pink scraps. Let's see if I have a good day.

My curved log cabin block

I have managed to get my Curved Log Cabin block done. I am using my scraps for this project. Over at Angela's it is a BLUE month. I am linking up with http://superscrappy.blogspot.com.au for the last Saturday of January. I worked out the measurements for me to follow to do more of these blocks. One important thing I learnt was that the last round of tone on tone must measure 3/4". Then when I sew the 4 units together the outside border will match. Very useful thing to remember..... The other pieces won't matter if they are not exactly the same. This full block measures 21.5" unfinished. Even though it took most of the day it is still a good block for an easy quilt. Yes it was done out of my scrap bucket

I look forward to making a new colour each month for RSC15

A busy weekend sewing

FRIDAY NIGHT...
FNSI kept me busy with me piecing my 1/2 square triangles together. Mari from http://academicquilter.blogspot.com.au had too many half square triangles so gave them away. Yep, they came to me... This is the pattern I chose and will be making it into a folder cover...

After the piecing was done I went on with machine quilting a friends quilt. I made good progress before getting too tired. This is a basket weave design so I quilted straight lines in the same direction as the weave.
Look at what the WENDY and the others who joined in have done..

SCRAP HAPPY SATURDAY....
I am still working out what to make this year for the RSC15 with ANGELA but I am leaning towards this...... An uneven log cabin block. When 4 are sewn together the centre creates a circle. Or is supposed too. The maths was doing my head in. I haven't got it quite right but it will work. This block measures 11" so once the 4 blocks are together it will be 21" finished.

With all 12 blocks done it will be a nice size... I am linking up with ANGELA and lots of others too.

SLOW SUNDAY STITCHING...
I am linking up with Kathy at http://kathysquilts.blogspot.ca today.

I have spent today quietly finishing another Hexie for Heathcote Quilters ...

Then moving on to a XMAS block. It is 12" square, made with a 1/4" bias and woven in a Celtic style. I'm not sure if it will be a wall hanging, cushion or a table centre. There is still plenty of time to work that out.
