My curved log cabins for RSC

 I cleaned out my sewing store room as it was dangerous going in there. Oh what I found was overwhelming. I have so much fabric, lots of kits to be started/made and a huge amount of UFO’s.

So here is one that I will get back into. I started this RSC CURVED LOG CABIN block in 2015, then worked on it again in 2017 and did the last block in 2019. Wow……

They are blocks that measure 20” square. I have decided to put them on point with cream strips in the corners. I will cut the yellow block in half diagonally and position it on the top and bottom. This means I need another block for the 2 sides. Out with the PURPLES. I don’t this has already been done yet so I am ready.

It will then measure 60” square. I will bind it with different coloured scraps

Here are my 6 all together.

With the help of friends while away on retreat I came up with the idea to border it in strings about 3 1/2" wide. These colours will match the blocks around the sides to the corresponding blocks.

These 6 blocks will make a quilt about 46" x 66"..

My butterflies are all caught up too.

I have been making curved log cabin blocks for quite a while.

I started about 3 years ago. Not many have been made so I am back on the line getting them done each month.

Here is my green block.

The green strips are cut at 1 1/2" and the creams are cut at 1". This block measures 21".

My scrappy green crumbs have been stitched together to make a lovely spring BUTTERFLY.

I loved making these curved log cabin blocks a few years back.

They use up the tiniest strips. Some are less than an inch.

THIS MONTH IS RED.

I am on holidays still so hopefully I'll get some sewing in and make a start.

If I set aside 1 project a weekend I must just get some done.

My orange blocks are done...

I have had a slow week but have done a little bit of sewing... I've been busy finishing my log cabins...

Here they are all trimmed to 10.5"...

And now for the finished block, that measures 20.5", with the other colours I have had done for a while.

And now for the next ORANGE curved log cabin block.

Oops, I went to cut them  to size @ 10.5" but when I put the ruler on them I realised I still needed to add another round.
I have been unwell again this weekend so the finish is not going to happen for a few more days...

Scrap happy Saturday yellows turn Aqua...

I have been following Angela for a few years now. I thought I was sewing along last year but when I searched my posts it was 2015... This is what I made back then in yellow.

Well I have run out of yellows and have back tracked to earlier this year and used up my aquas.

I am making double ended oven mitts again ready for the trade table at our quilt show. I hope that they will sell.

My Friday night was spent with my daughter doing a little machine & hand stitching. Spending time together was the best and more important.

My curved log cabin block

I have managed to get my Curved Log Cabin block done. I am using my scraps for this project. Over at Angela's it is a BLUE month. I am linking up with http://superscrappy.blogspot.com.au for the last Saturday of January. I worked out the measurements for me to follow to do more of these blocks. One important thing I learnt was that the last round of tone on tone must measure 3/4". Then when I sew the 4 units together the outside border will match. Very useful thing to remember..... The other pieces won't matter if they are not exactly the same. This full block measures 21.5" unfinished. Even though it took most of the day it is still a good block for an easy quilt. Yes it was done out of my scrap bucket
