ANZAC DAY...... AUSSIE HERO QUILT & LAUNDRY BAG IN THE POST

So here are my piles of blue scrap fabrics.
I am doing strip, QAYG piecing.
This will be made into an Aussie Hero quilt.
Unfortunately it didn't use up many scraps.
I still cant close the blue tub but I am happy with the end result.

Here is the finished quilt. I love the look of it but not sure if I like doing QAYG this way.
It has the binding on the front but not the back. The seams were very bulky.
The recipients name has been covered up for privacy.
There were a few mistakes as I had cut the blocks out to sew a certain way then I decided to follow a different tutorial which didn't match the cutting/sewing measurements. The seam lines don't match but are still ok. It was a learning curve for me. I am still trying to find a QAYG method I enjoy and that works or me. This is now in the mail...

Look at this fantastic backing fabric I have used.
It shows all the icons landmarks in Sydney & Melbourne

I have sent off this Laundry bag too. Obviously the recipient is named Bob..

QAYG string blocks for GIPPSLAND FIRE VICTIMS

With the tragic fires that have been happening in Australia I want to help...
It's not much..
When we make quilts for charities the men aren't thought about as much. Our fabrics we use are more pretty and floral. This time I am focussing on males. Checks."
I have pulled all these check fabrics that have been donated to me to make QAYG blocks for the GIPPSLAND FIRES.
Jan Mac assembles QAYG blocks and sends them for Charity. I have been helping her over the past few years. She does an amazing  job at forwarding on these quilts.

My table looks a mess. BUT a happy mess.

I'm working on 2 at a time.. They go together faster..

Here they are trimmed. I think these will look great

These are the blocks I have done so far to send to Jan Mac for the people that need it in the GIPPSLAND Fires..

The last weekend of March and GREENS.

TINY TUESDAY BLOCKS.

I'm loving my owl block with his giggly odd eyes.
https://theobjectsofdesign.blogspot.com/2019/03/tiny-tuesday-owl-tutorial.html
We were supposed to do a wonky log cabin block but I first made a crazy patch.
Oops... 2 scrappy blocks made.

Here are all my QAYG blocks up on my wall.
I still have the umbrella block to do.

Go on over to see some more great work over at

My daughter and family are visiting here for the week.
Not much time for blog reading or sewing.

Tiny Tuesday is going QAYG

I thought I would try QAYG with these cute Tiny Tuesday blocks.
Every Tuesday Angela has been putting up these wonderful blocks either designed by her or other bloggers/quilters.
Sewing them QAYG style will hopefully keep me going and won't take long to finish later.

My background borders, wadding & backing is cut.

This is what not to do

Here it is all fixed and quilted.
Looks a bit better.

Time to assemble QAYG style

Here are the blocks all together that I have already sewn QAYG style.
I hope one day I get many blocks to put together easily by way of joining by sewing strips to join my blocks together.

Angela over at So Scrappy & Scrap Happy Saturday & even more so Tiny Tuesday is a great inspiration.

QAYG is finished

I have finished all but the hand stitching of the binding down. I am sending it to a friend who originally worked on the quilt until I took it over years back. She enjoys hand stitching. When it's done she will pass it on to a charity.

When I was running my hands over this quilt and checking for threads I felt a bump. A hidden bump. Can you see where that pin is. That is marking the spot where I had to unpick some stitching. Yes, silly me had sewn a pin into it. I was holding the wadding in place when I was stitching it down and I missed taking it out. Lucky I found it.

A mysterious bump in the sashing.

Removing a pin that was hidden in the finished sashing.
OOPS IT WAS SEWN IN...

Here is a bit of the back showing with the sashing strip in there.
I needed to add  this because I didn't have enough of the backing fabric
This is all the sashing and backing fabric left

QAYG, SLOW STITCHING SUNDAY

I have had a busy week working on this quilt. It must have been started in a class and thrown in the cupboard, and I mean THROWN IN THE CUPBOARD. It definitely isn't a good way of doing QAYG. the sashings were sewn on then a length of wadding was put in between the fabric. No quilting to keep it in place. What a horrible way of doing it. My patience was tried but I have stuck with it as I want it gone.
After I did some measurements and worked out what fabrics I had and what would fit where. I got into cutting. The sashings and borders are cut.
Borders and sashings all cut

I have sewn all the sashings in, started on the borders. Only the 2 side borders to go.
It's getting there. Only 2 sides to go.

I am sick of getting pricked by all the pins. That is my Slow Stitching Sunday project today.
Sewing down all the sashings. See all those pins. They are the sashings I still have to sew.
A bad, frosty photo.
But this is where I am hand stitching the sashings

After it's all together and no more pins I will have to go back and machine quilt all the sashings and outside border. Those wadding pieces need to be held in there.
This is all the fabric that is left over. That is why I have a sashing strip on the back.
 I think it looks ok.
Only small pieces of fabric left

FNSI QAYG UFO

That's right... Friday night had me sewing along with many others for FNSI.
I got another UFO out of the cupboard and tried to make some progress.
I had a pile of blocks already sewn, rows joined and lots of scraps. So trying to work out what the plan was... Anyway, I have decided it needed another 5 blocks making. This is what I made on Friday night. I will then have 5 blocks across and 6 rows down. I will join them with the brighter blue sashing and the backing fabric as corner stones and a 4" border... Now to get the measurements right.
A box of scraps

What I started with

Now to keep working on it over the next few weeks to get it finished.

Why don't you grab a cuppa and go check out what others got up to.

QAYG scrappy String Blocks for charity

I have seen on a few blogs people have been making blocks for charity and sending them to Jan.
http://sewmanyquiltstoolittletime.blogspot.com.au/search?updated-max=2016-02-03T04:31:00-08:00&max-results=7&reverse-paginate=true
So I got all my scraps together and sewed for a few hours on a couple of days..
This is what I ended up with.
28 QAYG scrappy string blocks
My daughter has dropped them off... I hope that they will be put to good use.
Here is what Jan has done with them.
