Days of Delight update

 Oops.

I have no progress. I am finishing up the month the same as where I left it 2 weeks ago.

Monday 26 February 2024

The Flip La K quilt is looking good and ready for sashings.

Another day of sewing had me working on Flip La K.

Sewing borders on to twist the blocks. This design covers up the different size blocks.

All borders have been put on the blocks and they are now trimmed ready for sashings. I will have to rearrange and twist some blocks to mix them up a bit first.

My daughter got this beach trolley when she bought her camper van. She didn’t want it. So lucky me.
It is now mine. The girls at sewing use them to load their sewing around on our sit n sews and retreats. Makes short work of a few loads.

Farmers Wife blocks 80 & 44

Block 80 was easy to do but probably not a good choice of contrasting fabrics.

The block looks good though.

Now for no. 44

Little Gracie surrounded by orange and green.

This is a very cute block.

Here they are so far all together.
There is not much contrast in some of the blocks but overall I’m very happy.

Farmers Wife SAL Blocks 42 & 07

First up this weekend was block no. 42. This one took some time.

Fabric was chosen and pattern was drawn on.

Foundation pieces were sewn together and well ironed

Then trimmed.

Second block was started in softer pink and green. Block no. 7 had a lot of half square triangles. I make them 8 at a time. I can then trim them down.

Quarters ready to piece together

All sewn together.

The wall display is growing.

More progress has been made on Flip La K.

I have sat done and worked out the fabric we were given.

Resewn blocks, trimmed other blocks to size, cut lots of fabric. Patched some to fit and now have a great plan.

All blocks are trimmed to the same size.

The new borders are going on. These will make the blocks look off size so it will hide some errors.

All the squaring up pieces have been cut

While I was watching YouTube Sal’s, tutorials and just talk shows.

Sashings have been cut, borders and bindings worked out. Now to get back to them at some point.

Farmers Wife Blocks 103 & 43 are done.

Another day was spent sewing my Farmers Wife blocks.

2 a week is all I needed to do. Wow, 43 took a few hours. These blocks measure 6” finished.

Block 103 the snowball was fairly simple. I also remembered to fussy cut the centre on point.

Next block was 43. Not so easy. Choosing the fabrics always takes time.

Thanks to the foundation papers to help me along the way. I wrote the colours on the pattern so I knew where to put what.

Piecing the sections.

Now to iron and remove the papers.

Nicely ironed and made to measure correctly. I did have to let out a seam or 2. I’m not sure why I have so much trouble.

I have chosen the fabric for the outside border triangles.

Cut some to size and put them on my wall with the blocks I have made so far.

I just have to sort out the sashing fabric then I can start joining them. I have 2 or 3 to choose from.

A light cream tone on tone.

Target achieved.

Days of Delight slow stitching Sunday

Oh my. We are having such hot weather this weekend. I have locked myself inside not feeling like doing much or talking either. I have sewed, caught up on some blog posts, planned some future holidays and sat enjoying some slow stitching. I have stitched a few more words on my calendar.

Back to Flip La K blocks

Some time last year our quilt group did a Flip La K workshop and our learning block was a challenge.

Lots to take in but necessary to understand the process of using the rulers.

Our first block fabrics was supplied by the tutor, Brenda. With the intention of the blocks being made into a charity quilt. Yes, I took on the challenge to put them together.

Well they were all shapes and sizes even though it was to finish a square.

I have unpicked some blocks and will iron and resew them.

I have an idea of how to make a design where they will fit together. Some blocks also ended up in reverse.

Slow stitching Sunday

I had a lazy day Sunday and went and did groceries then just sat for the day.

I watched YouTube then started to stitch my

No 2 Challenge

I have chosen my threads. I am not using what the pattern says but what I have on hand. All the odd bits.

So as I am starting this in February I thought I would start the stitching with February.

So Sunday February 4 was stitched.

I was stitching along but I missed linking up with  Slow Stitching Sunday

Friday sewing the Farmers Wife quilt….

I don’t often get to sew on a Friday. It’s usually spent doing the washing, groceries and bills… etc…..

But this Friday I sewed.

I have joined a group who are making the Farmers Wife Quilt.

The starting block # 14

I have always wanted to make this quilt and I had put some fabrics with the book and printed the templates a few years ago. Now is the time to start.

We have decided to make 2 blocks per week.
I am working from top left doing each row then assembling the top as I go. Or that is what I hope to do.
I have to sort the sashing and border yet.
Anyway, here is my first block going together. It was a bit hard for the first block. The blocks measure 6” so 5 across isn’t easy to work out. BUT I did find this site where the measurements have been worked out for foundation pieced.
Susan Gatewood has some great information to each block. Such a great help.

February challenge no. 2

Deana has been busy and drawn our next number to work on

CHOOKSHED Stitchers Challenge - February

I’ll be using this project as my slow stitching Sunday to help me sit and relax.

That will be 2 link ups in one.

Here is my project. I must have known as I just got this ready for stitching.

Of course I will start with the word February.
