I baked a cake…. While slow stitching my Kawandi tablecloth.

I pulled out some slow stitching while I had the oven on baking a cake. This is definitely a slow stitching project. But it is very relaxing.

I was going to visit my old workplace and thought I’d bake a cake. I also have visitors coming.
I don’t need a cake for each so a shared one was perfect. I don’t need love this cake. My friend many years ago made this for when I visited. I find it very easy to bake. It can also be great as a gluten free option. This is what I made as my boss is gluten intolerant.

MOIST APPLE CAKE

Here is the recipe……
INGREDIENTS.

225g plain flour or gluten free
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon bi carb soda
100g butter. Diced. (Room temp)
225g castor sugar
2 apples sliced or thick diced (if using gluten free flour add an extra half an apple)
50g chopped walnuts
50g sultanas (I used cranberries)
2 eggs well beaten
1 teaspoon Vanilla Essence

HOW TO MAKE.
Sift flour, salt, bi carb together.
Rub in butter
Stir in sugar, apples, walnuts and fruit.
Mix in eggs and vanilla essence.

Pour into greased or glad baked lined tin.

Cook on 170 deg c. for approx 1 hr 15 - 1 1/2 hrs.
Check with skewer. If comes out clean.. ITS DONE

If you want to when serving sprinkle with some icing sugar for decoration.

My quilt is finished . Now onto another slow stitching project.

I had a bit of trouble with the blocks not being even on two of the sashings and my quilting lines went really off.

So I unpicked half of one sashing to fudge the design a bit…

2 of the crosses are a funny shape but at least it gets them back on track

Now all sashings are quilted

Quilting, binding, label, washed and all quilting lines are removed.
It’s on the bed.

It looks amazing and fits my bed so well.
I LOVE IT.

So now I need another hand project. A smaller one this time.
I am off to Japan at the end of the year and will need to take a pretty hand towel/washcloth with me.
What better time to stitch my sashiko cloth that I bought 10 years ago.

I love this coloured variegated thread.
This is easy sewing for just sitting and relaxation. Not much concentration needed. Just stitch straight lines. Look how much I got done tonight.

Happy Mothers Day sitting relaxing and some hand quilting.

Now the weather has turned and it starting to feel like winter it is not really cold enough for the heater to be on. What better way is it to snuggle underneath a quilt. Better still, why not hand quilt and keep yourself warm and comfy. So I got out this beautiful quilt my friend gave me for my birthday quite a few years ago. It was a scrappy top that Sue made as I was not into scrappy then but I am now. It has come in and out of the cupboard so I think it will stay out this winter. Hopefully getting some more progress this year.

I am big stitch quilting with thick cotton thread.
