Not such a good day.

As the lead up to today slowly approached my mood started declining. It is a sad remeberance day.
It has been 5 years since losing my son and boy things have changed.

I'm not sure what to say but I miss him terribly.

TO MY BEAUTIFUL SON
I LOVE YOU and MISS YOU.

Good bye to my dear friend

Today is such a sad day.
It is th 4th anniversary of my son passing away. It has been extremely hard getting by and learning to cope with him not being here.

I woke to the sad news that my dear friends mum has passed away this morning. Del was such a beautiful, fun, caring lady. So sweet. I am so sorry for this loss and I know my friend is going to struggle with moving on.

ORGAN DONOR THANKYOU DAY

I have been reading over at Liz's blog that it is ORGAN donors THANKYOU DAY.
This is some thing that is so close to my heart. Liz and I are on opposite sides to the story...
my sons organs were donated and he saved 6 lives as well as some organs going for research and future transplants.
Yes, this is an extremely hard decision to make at such a traumatic time. It still makes me tear up when I talk or write about it. Liz and I have had many conversations about it. This is how we became friends and as it turned out we actually were in the same quilt group. We lived an hour away from each other. There are many other reasons we talk. It is so good to hear Lizs good news all the time and it makes our decision all the more worthwhile.
As much as it is very hard for us all the time to think of it is still good to hear the good stories and why we did it. If ever you have the heart to do so please consider being a donor. Yes, you lose someone you love. BUT they will be gone and to help someone that desperately needs it is well worth it.

We also had a family member the same year receive a kidney. Luckily his mother was compatabile and healthy enough to donate a kidney. This made us think that if she wasn't there who would be. That could have been someone else we would have lost. Just to see the change in him and his life is amazing.

Please consider registering for organ donation. It might not help you but it might save someone you love.

This is how my daughter dealt with it. This is her story.
Please have a read to see what we go through..

4 years this week and is still as hard as the day it happened.

We love and miss you John but you saved so many. We are very proud of you....

My Beautiful Daughter telling a tragic story

After the tragic loss of my 18 year old son 21 months ago my beautiful daughter submitted her story to DONATE LIFE.
It was accepted and the book has just been published.
Have a look at the many stories, some good and some not so good.
Please consider becoming an organ donor in the hope that others can live after another has passed.
Yes, it is an extremely hard decision but because of my son and our families decision there are 6 other families out there that have a much better lifestyle now.

Johns face is done

While I was out of the cold wind today and sitting inside with my heater working nicely I worked on my pixelation quilt. I was watching Bonnie Hunters QUILT CAM over at Quiltville.blogspot.com .
I have glued all the 4500 little 1/2" squares onto the backing of a thin vielene.
Now Johns face is complete. He shows up so well.

I am surprised at how much it looks like the photo.
This photo of my son was taken only a few months before he passed away. This is a beautiful way to have him in my lounge with the family all the time now.

I am doing a workshop with my Heathcote group. Liz Allen put the photos into a computer
programme and then printed off a pattern for us to follow. We had to purchase 16 different colours to get the effect. Then we had to cut them into 1/2" pieces. Yes, all 4500 of them. Now they are glued on  the next step is to raw edge appliqué them. That will be started next Wednesday. I'm not sure how that will go but we are going to give it a try.

(I might try to take another photo of it in better light tomorrow)

Glue, glue & more glue

Well, after doing my workshop yesterday and glueing down all those little 1/2" squares my eyes were a bit fuzzy. It took forever and I'm not even half way done. A lot were glued before you could see it taking shape. I am really happy with it so far.
Look HERE for the start.
I have done some more on this and linking up with Kelly
Needle & Thread Thursday. Will be putting up another photo before the stitching gets started.

My boy is being PIXELATED

I am doing a workshop at my Heathcote group tomorrow. It is held by Liz Allen. I had some preparation cutting to do. I was putting this off as I had to cut 4500 1/2" squares. It was bad enough going out and trying to find 16 colours of fabric that slowly graduated from light to dark.
I gave a photo of my son and I got back a pattern in sepia colours. The picture quilt will measure about 30" * 36". That's a lot of squares. I finally went out and started cutting. It took me 3 hours..
