A busy day… 5 crumb sewing placemats

I have had a fun day sewing up my scraps.. I am making up some placemats for meals on wheels at the end of the year. I hope to get 50 made so I can donate them for Xmas gifts to recipients.

I have already handed over 3 and have now made another 5. I’ll have to keep track of the count.

So I see blogger is putting the photos in a different order so this will take some time to post…

I’m working with my scraps. It’s time to tackle this basket.

I found these in amongst my go cutter dies. So thought I should use them up first.

Flying geese blocks already cut out but needed sewing.

I am using a new machine foot I bought 2 years ago. We always buy these gadget things but don’t use them enough. It is a quilting in the ditch foot. Oh wow. I was scared to try it but I will be using it in many more future projects. It was easy and gave an amazing finish.

And the quilting is finished

Next up was another pink scrap project. Look at the pile of scraps."

And it is done…

Next up is a bright coloured placemat.

And it has worked out so well.

Then there was a lot of purple.

It looks so good finished

And then there was blue. The colour for February

This looks good.

Here they are all together. They look great.

Here are the next 5 piles already sorted into their colours for my next sewing day.
Black/Grey, brown, red, green and yellow/orange.

Scraps, zippered pouch, placemat and leaders and Enders

More finishing up with some scraps. These are the scraps from a quilt I have recently made.

Piecing them together.

To make a placemat.

Still some leftovers

Made into a zippered pouch with a clear plastic window. Good to store my thimbles, binding clips or ???

I sewed it so there was a base for it to stand by itself.

This means I can link up with Soscrappy for this years RSC. Blue….

I have also set up my leaders and Enders while I sew these scraps together. More scraps all ready cut out.

I have a sample of both sides pinned to my ironing board so I get the placement and ironing correct.

Using up more scraps

Continuing with my clean up piles I finished off some placemats.

And a Xmas zippered placemat

I have put a napkin and cutlery in the pocket. This one is for me to use.

Then the smaller scraps

were made into pin cushions.

They are good to put a few binding clips on and your sewing needle when stitching your bindings or other hand projects.

I want to get about 40 of these made by December. I am well on the way. I have about 14 already. I will continue to make these with the leftovers of other projects. It’s a finish up year…

SPF Charity sewing Placemats

I had some left overs from my sunflowers that were the wrong colour blue. They needed to be used up.

Our sewing group held a charity night making placemats. I did not attend but made these at home.

They could be any size which made it easier to decide what to do.

Made the blocks the same as the Irish chain blocks.

Joined some scrap wadding.

Started some simple quilting

Diagonal quilting through the squares

Placemats trimmed

BUT… OH NO!!!!!!!!!!
Oops I’ve got a date with Jack.

I have 3 the same

But not enough to make a matching 4th one. I did have enough sunflower fabric to make a different design though.

These go to individuals that receive Meals on Wheels. So I do not need matching sets.
Bindings are yet to be done as I took sick. Had the day off work and spent it in bed.

GYPSY WIFE SCRAPS HAS STARTED.

I was given all the orphan blocks from everyone's scrap bags at our local quilt group.
It was to make a charity quilt.
I decided I would give the GYPSY WIFE A GO.
I bought the pattern book from Amitie in Torquay.
https://www.amitie.com.au/about-us.htm

Look at all the blocks I have been given.
Now to make them all fit into this brilliant quilt.

I HAVE GOT ALL THE BLOCKS WORKED OUT.
Doesn't look like much so I happen it looks better when it's sewn.

I was given a few strips last week.

Now to wait for some more  neutral strips to be donated so I can continue.

Convergence... Scrappy Strings

Okay,
My convergence quilt centre is now in one piece ......
What to do with it now.
I'll have to put my thinking cap on.
I want to make this into an AUSSIE HERO QUILT
But to work out how to make it longer..

This is where I got my inspiration from --- http://adventuresinquiltingandsailing.blogspot.com/2010/04/ricky-timms-convergence-quilt-workshop.html
It was a great help with the photos and instructions.

While I have been doing my stitching over the last couple of weeks I have been making string blocks.
These will be made into a string half square triangle block for CHARITY.
I will be working on these for a while.

These will be something I'll be showing my group and hopefully they will be joining  in too.

This was what I showed them on a weekend away.

FNWF fabric scrap clean up and sort out.

Oh Scrap.

My friend and I were recently given lots of bags of scraps.
So I got the job of sorting them out.
This is how I'm spending my Friday night.
The girls over at FNWF are probably sewing.
Once I get this sorted then I can sew all weekend...
Oh my, what a mess!!!

Here are the scraps of kids fabrics. I should be able to get something out of this...

Sorting into piles of colours.
This took quite a while but I did get through them.
The biggest pile is the fabrics I am sorting.

This is what I spent the rest of the night doing..
sewing my scraps together to make blocks.
I decided to focus on kids fabrics. I want to make a few smaller quilts for charity.
The size is yet to be determined.

I joined in with Cheryll and a few others for FNWF.

A good friend

A good friend of mine has been working on a quilt for quite a while. She has come to the realisation that she is not interested in machine sewing any more. So, I received a parcel in the mail. Included was a pile of fabric, some strips sewn together, large blocks cut and other blocks sewn again. What was I to do but get them all out and sort them out. Work out what she had in mind and go forward and finish it off for her. She is so special..
Here is what I got..... such lovely bright fabrics....

Oh my. What's in the box.... what a challenge.
Time to sor the box full of goodies out. Then work out what can I do with them. The aim is for something to make a king single quilt.
A box full of goodies. Fabric, strips, blocks, scraps and 1/2 square triangles.
Strips ready to be sewn

Fun colourful strips crosscut and sewn into half square triangle blocks.

The strips need cross cutting
The strips have been cross cut into 13.5" blocks.
Place the 2 blocks together after they have been placed in opposite directions. You will end up with fun half square triangles.
13" blocks to be sewn 1/4" around all sides and then cut diagonally.
Once the blocks have been cut diagonally this is what we have got.
These are the blocks that will be sewn together. SOMEHOW....
A 9.5" block
