My Teddy rug, RSC light blue sewing.

I know some of you are waiting for it.

Sewing my scraps together to make a rug for a special gift.

All 45 strips are sewn to the batting. I really only needed to make 42. They measure about 45” long. This took a long time.

Now to join them together. This wasn’t as bad as I thought.

I did have to be careful it didn’t curve and distort. Sew one on going up, the next going down. I did them in sets of 6 then joined these together. It was easier to handle as it had some weight.

Now to mark, stitch and cut the shape.

This is getting exciting.

I had to make a chenille piece. My cutter didn’t want to cut so I reverted back to using scissors.

Here it is all sewn up.

And the chenille is all roughed up.

I absolutely love it. Thank you Pauline Rogers  from Pauline’s Quilters World for this wonderful pattern. Watch her on YouTube. I will be making it again.

Linking up with Scrap Happy Saturday , RSC and so scrappy. This month the colour was light blue or green.

Binding is sewn and it’s on my bed

I received my quilt back from Judy @ Cornerstone Creations before I went on a little holiday. Friday night I fit shed hand stitching the binding down. It was nearly 11m of binding.

It is completed and looks fantastic

The quilting Judy chose is beautiful. Not too tight. It’s just right. Quilted in a blue thread matches perfectly.

And it’s on my bed. I wanted it from floor to floor, side to side.

With the pillows on.

I just love it. The label is done too.

My sashiko chookshed challenge progress.

My travelling stitching was also some sashiko.

1st block finished

Sitting sewing at Coober Pedy caravan park.

2nd block finished

Working on the last larger block did my head in. See how the waves go from side to side and another set goes diagonally. Well, do you think I could stitch the correct direction.

I got so far then went on a different angle. Mmmm.

That’s ok, I can stitch back to where I was supposed to be and continue on.

Well I got confused again and I don’t know where I stitched so I am just going anywhere now.

Set up in my home away from home

National Jelly Roll day, Zoom, Discord and a new project

It is National Jelly Roll Day. Chooky was having a zoom morning. This time I was up early enough to join in.

I decided to try a new to me technique and project. This required cutting a lot of  2 1/4” wadding strips. I dragged out all my offcuts and cut away.

Then I pulled out my smaller pieces of blue fabrics and I made my own jelly roll by cutting them into 2.5” strips.

Then sewed them all together end to end as they were all sizes and I need 45 strips that measure width of fabric.

A few years back I bought a pattern to make a teddy floor rug using a jelly roll, wadding and a sasher tool.

After watching a few YouTube tutorials by Pauline’s Quilters World to see how to use the sasher tool I gave it a go. It actually worked as it was supposed to. Not too hard.

Zoom finished, I had lunch then I joined a new group on Discord. Aussie Chipettes. I have recently joined them doing some fabric and block swaps. This was the first time meeting some members. While we were chatting I ended up with 10 strips completed.

This is what I aim to complete.

A few more to make before I can start to join them into a rug. Then the fun will begin cutting to shape.

A few swaps I have been in

I have been getting into the Potato Chip blocks and been cutting up my scraps. I have used my GO cutter to cut all these. They measure 2.5” * 4.5”. I have a few hundred cut now.

I joined up with Aussie Chippettes and put my name down for some swaps. These included 20 Potato Chip, 10 Terry Rowland, 10 * 4 patches and 3 house blocks.

Cute houses. I used my GO cutter to do the flying geese roof tops. They were oversized and I could trim them down to the perfect size. I always have trouble with flying geese measuring straight.

All ready to be posted out

I have returned from a 5 week holiday to Darwin and collected my mail. What a lovely surprise.

Look at all this happy mail. So many nice and pretty blocks.

Thank you everyone who took part.

Slow Stitching Sunday - Kawandi

I have been working on my slow stitching Kawandi project I received at Aprils Scrub Stitchin retreat.

This is all the fabric I had left out of a charm pack.

I have now done all the stitching.

I wasn’t very even with lining up my edges with the next row of stitching. Kate was very careful with hers. So I added in some extra lines to catch down the folds.

The other way I tried was a bit of blind stitching. I want to see which one will stand out or look better in the finished project.

This is all the thread left too. I did my stitching half inch apart. If you do closer you will probably run out of thread. Here is my fat quarter that was in my welcome bag on the back of work and the label from the charm square pack.

September CHOOKSHED challenge - # 3 SASHIKO

I went on a sewing cruise back in 2014 for my birthday and did a class with Jane MacDonald.

Have a look HERE at the project she taught and I started.

I have done all the HEXIES. No I don’t like EPP.

So where am I now. A few blocks have been done, some started a lots still to do.

Some started

and a lot still to do

They really don’t take too long to stitch. Maybe after all this time I should get a move on.

I am linking up with Deana for this month’s start. I did not achieve August challenge as we have been away.
