A new mystery, SAL, finish and VERY PHOTO HEAVY.

Oh the days are getting away from me. BUT. I have been busy spending all my spare time on catching up and working on my mystery

SPRING FLING with STRINGS

Every Wednesday a new clue is out. We have been told there are 12 clues and it finishes mid July. We have just done clue 9 and I have just caught up. I have spent 4 days sewing, ironing and trimming…

Here is where it started. Using the old phone books to make my string blocks.

And using up my green scraps

Strips are sewn

Greens blocks are trimmed

Then on to neutrals

Now for some foundation piecing with my pinks

I needed opposite colourways

I did use a lot of pinks up

Now for lots of trimming

And removing papers

There is about 260 blocks here. The squares are only 3.5”

Marking squares on the diagonal for 1/4 square triangles

Introducing purple

I find when I foundation piece my blocks are not exact if I trim it following the printed lines. This is how I trim my blocks. I mask off what size finished block I need on a ruler

Mark the reference points with a permanent black marker on the ruler

Lay it on my block and trim to size.

This way they come out all trimmed with the same placement

I did the same with the smaller blocks too. I just find it works best for me.

Now that’s a lot of sewing, trimming, removing papers

Well I finally got the blocks together but had sewn one in the wrong way. So a date with jack fixed it.

The finished top

This has gone on long enough and I’m sure you want to see the end result. I had it quilted while we were travelling. When I got home I added the label and binding.

Here it is.

It measures 96” * 96”
You can follow the mystery SAL by watching Brenda’s YouTube video tutorials.
There ended up being 14 videos and here is the link for the playlist.

There’s a lot of work in that one. A great scrap buster. It has a nice spring look.
