I was sewing the rows of my aqua quilt and Chooky called another zoom session.
All one way was sewn together. I ironed all the seams flat and my ironing board decided to collapse. It’s the only one I have owned and I have only had it since 1980 so I’m probably due for a new one. As I am sewing a large quilt I need it to help with the weight of the fabric as I sew the seams the other direction. I have propped the board up with containers and have it resting on the table too.
Zoom in the background and only a seam or two to go.
Top is all done and sits on my bed beautifully. I wanted it nearly to the floor so it covers everything for a great winter quilt.
The foot end will be tucked in between the mattress and wooden end.
I couldn’t complete the ironing so I went shopping. Our daughter was home from holidays and came for a visit so I could do some groceries. I went to Big W first. Wow, prices have gone up. This ironing board was $75. Well, I need it.
A few years back, at our quilt show, a member was selling her ironing board covers. They are thicker fabric and extra padding. I hadn’t got around to using it. Now is as good a time as any. I can now iron my top.
While I was there I thought I’d buy myself a new iron too. I don’t buy expensive ones as I have a habit of dropping them. This one was only $25 and I am happy with that.
Now off I go to iron my quilt top.

Beautiful colors on the quilt!
I miss those middle of the night (for me) zooms. I feel like I'm missing seeing a whole contingent of people!
Jo, the quilt top looks amazing!
With a new iron and an ironing board you are all set. I know all about dropping irons, dropped my new one some time ago and the pointy nose bit snapped off!
Pity you spent $75, I have 3 ironing boards at home, that I don't use.....love your top, well done!
Your quilt looks fabulous Jo.
It may have been expensive, but at least it looks fairly sturdy. Hopefully it will last for another 45 years. A good excuse to get a new iron as well. I'm loving the way your quilt top turned out.
The quilt looks great on the bed and big enough so when Tony rolls over he doesn’t under cover you……
Guess you would expect the price of the ironing board to go up after 26 years!
I also go through a few irons but I do like one that switches it self off.
Your quilt looks fabulous Jo. Well done. Your new iron & board look great too - I think our irons get a hard time with all our craft work so they are a good investment. xx
Your top looks beautiful and just right for your bed. Well, my ironing beard is not as old as yours - but getting on that way! And it has all the numerous covers I have put on it over the years - I just add a new one over the old. xx
Great work on the quilt top. That has come together well.
Looks like a new start for the New Year for you with both the iron and the board.
Love the finished top, great improvisation with the ironing board. Good to see you bought a new one though.
Lovely quilt ... who knew that buying a new iron and ironing board could be a happy occasion ... happy quilt pressing x
Well done to finish your quilt top, looks great on the bed. Good and necessary new purchases.
