I loved the fabrics in my Bordertown B’s quilt so much I decided to make a bucket hat with them.
I’ve wanted a bucket hat for a while too.
I came across a pattern and tutorial HERE
Thought I would need the large size so it was traced out.
Collect all the bindings
Lay them out ready to choose
Start sewing onto interfacing
Pieces cut to the pattern
Stitched in to the hat
But oh no. It is too big. I added some elastic to see if that helped. Oh no! It made it worse and looked hilarious on.
So I will spend another day breaking it down and trimming some here and there. Then hopefully I can get it fitting better.
I do love the overall look of the colours though.
I did use all the bindings too.

The colours do look good so hope you can remake to fit.
How disappointing with the fit. I’m sure you will be able to tweak it. On the plus side, the colours and overall effect looks terrific. Definitely worth making fit properly.
A great way to use up a bunch of left over bits and pieces. Shame it was too big. Proves that you're not big headed though. LOL I wish you luck next time.
We need pictures of you wearing this….
Love the colours and the idea of using selvedges
Great way to use selvedges and the colors are perfect together. It's a project definitely worth reworking to fit.
It's beautiful! Hope you get it to fit nicely.
Projects like this, where I'm using scraps from other projects, might be some of my favorite ones to complete. As a cabinet refinisher, I hate seeing stuff go to waste or throwing something out because someone else can't see the potential it has. I love the look of your hat with all of the different fabrics. I never would have thought you used the bindings. I can't wait to see how it turns out after you trim some of it down!
What a great use of your selvedges, the colours are gorgeous. Not what I think of as a Bucket Hat - obviously an Oz/UK difference!
Lou summed it up - Proves that you're not big headed though. LOL
Great way to use selvedges and strips.
Shame it was too big Jo it looks fantastic. Hope you can get it to fit well.
I saved my selvedges for ears and then threw them away. I usually use closer to the edge that is handy for projects like these. Love the colors!
