Oh no!!!!!! My ceiling has collapsed

Early in January and nearly ready to go to bed we heard this almighty crash , bang and the floor was covered in water. We looked up and above the fridge we had no ceiling. It had collapsed.

( photos are not in order as we didn’t think of taking them before we worked out what was going on. We just wanted to sort it out. Then took photos)

After a bit of inspection we found that the condensation drain pipe had come off with vibration and had been leaking therefore damaging the insulation and ceiling.

Hubby glued the pipe back on which is what should have happened when it was originally installed.

He covered the hole with some cardboard and now we are waiting for it to be repaired. It has turned out it is cheaper to not go through the insurance company and have it outsourced and repaired. Now we just have to wait. Luckily we covered it well as we had the worsts winds, storms and rain and no more roof damage. We had the most rain in a day ever recorded in Mildura… ever.

I also had many loads of towels to wash. Luckily I have caught up. The heat helped and they weren’t on the line for long.

Still waiting to have it fixed… Tradesmen are busy…

That's a bit too dramatic a way to start the year!

That would have been quite a shock! You are fortunate it was in an area with tiles. Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long for tradies.

Oh my goodness Jo! I'm glad that nothing or no one was hurt, except the ceiling of course. I hope it doesn't take too long to get it fixed! What a pain.

Oh my goodness! What a terrible way to wake up. Glad no one was hurt, and that it was the ceiling and not the roof! Hope it is fixed soon.

Oh no! Good no one was hurt and that Toni could fix the pipe and cover the hole for now.
Hope the tradies come soon.

Oh my goodness, what a horrid thing to happen and to be dealing with. Good luck, hope you find a tradesman soon. Water coming through the ceiling is always worrying. Our original bathroom often created problems when we had visitors, especially John’s brother in law who regularly created a problem of water dripping through the kitchen ceiling onto the breakfast table. It created a “balloon “ full of water which we used to prick with a needle! Eventually we discovered that the bath had never been sited exactly flat, hence water dripping off the edge and through the ceiling. We had a new bathroom many years ago so thank goodness that’s no problem today!

Well that was a dramatic picture to catch my attention on a Monday morning! Love the Heath Robinson temporary repair to the ceiling. What a horrid thing to happen. xx

Oh dear, what a thing to happen! It certainly looks terrible, and such a mess, thank goodness for lots of towels. Do hope you get a tradesman in quickly to do the repairs very soon.

Glad you have a handy husband, and just as well is was the ceiling and not the whole roof collapsing. Understand why there is little sewing happening.
