Placemats are done

Here are the last of the placemats I have made for charity.
These are being given to MEALS ON WHEELS recipients for Xmas.
They should be ok for the guys.
They have wattle, gum nuts and gums leaves printed on them. Very Australian.
I made these up years ago when I first started ruler work machine quilting.
They were practice and sample pieces of each of the rulers. They are not fantastic works but I'm sure they will make someone happy.
I have now made about 20 to donate and this finish has made a space for me to pull out another UFO.

Currumbin Birds

These pheasants were so funny to stand and watch. There was a few of them and they were chasing each other around the enclosure.

I just love the colours that's are so bright and pretty.

My husband stood for a while watching these lovelies perched on a branch.

Look at this beauty

Kris Kringle Kaddy

Our sewing group this year have decided to make sewing/armchair caddy's for their Kris Kringle gift.
You can make any design you choos.
I came across this one and had the perfect fabric I wanted to use.
I brightened it up with a red .
I love it!!!!

I have made this great sewing caddy and love the the way I fussy cut the zipper.
I sewed this into the pin cushion.

The scissors tab tucks into a pocket.
It folds up nicely into 3.

Here it is all folded with the Ties done in a bow and it's ready to wrap.

2 months before it's needed.
No stressing here.

I got the pattern from here.

If you want to give it a go it is a great design and easy to make..

Currumbin wildlife

This emu was so friendly. They have got so used to the visitors feeding them that they just come up to you and follow you. My brother had a bit of fun with it.
These lizards were fun to watch. They can move really fast.
Echidnas ar so cute. I stood there for a while watching him waddle around his enclosure

This is a tree kangaroo. I've never seen one of these before.

I have seen crocodiles in the wild and I wouldn't want to be in the water with them. They are so big.

I just love watching the Koalas eat. They are so cute.
It is the only animal that I didn't get to see in the outback. Oh well a wild life park will have to do.

And the gift is finished

And the quilt is finished and it looks lovely.

Call them what you want but these little toys with different ribbons looped from them are very popular at the moment. They have a little bit of toy filling in them so they are very soft.

What a gorgeous set.

This gift was very well received.

Broken quilting foot

I needed to get this quilted by a certain date. Yes, my work colleague was finishing up and this needed to be done. I'm ready to sew.... OH NO!!!!!!
My free motion foot was broken.
WHAT AM I TO DO?????

I was a bit annoyed and wasn't sure what to do but then I remembered I had a westalee ruler quilting foot.
It doesn't go up and down like the free motion foot but it worked perfect. Actually my tension was better with this foot. So I was done quilting in no time.

It still isn't completely square but it will be ok.

The quilting is all done.

Now I just have to do the binding.

Now I'm on thing for a new foot.
Money, money, money.

Kuranda

We had a beautiful Skyrail trip in the gondola and now it's time to walk the streets, look in the shops and enjoy the market.
A fun & exhausting day and then we will be back on the train.

Great art work in the pavement.
A chainsaw chain and a horseshoe.
Very creative.

Look at these statues.
Brolga, Cassowary & Kangaroo.
So funny

Here is my brother having a great laugh.

We have had the best day together.

It’s now a book

Remember a while back I got this panel to make a book.
I wasn't sure if I was going to use all the blocks in a quilt but I went with the book.

This book has worked out so cute and it was quick and easy to make too.

Look at all the pages.

I just love this book.
It is going to be a wonderful gift for a new baby.

It was beautiful to see the Falls and Gorge from the air and train.
This was a wonderful day out.

Not SQUARED

I'm starting with this cute panel to make a quilt for a gift

I've cut the centre square out of the panel to make a cute baby quilt...
OMG what am I going to do.

But just take a look. It is laying on the cutting mat but it just doesn't line up with the ruled lines.
IT ISNT SQUARE.
Look how much on a lean it is. I'm not sure about it.

Now all the pieces are cut out of the panel and the extra borders are cut its time for sewing them together. I'm not sure how it will work though..
That centre is a bit of a bother.

So, I have now got it to a small quilt size ready for quilting.
It's still not square but it will have to do..
It measures 42". The panel pattern didn't include the outside border but it was too small without it.
I'm sending off an email to SPOTLIGHT to report I am not happy with paying for a panel that just doesn't sit right. I just hope it Quilts out a little better..

Termite mounds

I know these weren't the biggest termite mounds we saw when we were on the train trip but you can't just stop anywhere. RIGHT....

WRONG!!

The driver had heard of this mound but never really stopped to see it.
As there was only 12 of us on the last part of the trip he pulled the train up and off we hopped.
Into the bush a little and look what we found.

Someone had dumped a motor bike on a mound and the termites just kept building around it. It is stuck in there well and truly.

A funny site off the beaten track.

We were also told that studies now show that termites have the same inside functioning of the cockroach family so technically are not really ants...

BORO Stitching is nearly finished.

Remember ages ago when I showed these fabrics I got from J @ JACARANDA
Well I have finally started using them.

I've been sewing while we were on holidays. As this is my first time doing this technique I found I didn't overlap the fabrics enough. I also think I lost a few little pieces as I have ended up with a big gap..

I have done my stitching in different directions., added some patterns and used different threads. It's all about textures..

This is where I am now. I sewed a lot of this when we were travelling. Some of my overlapping seams didn't cover. I have now basted some extra squares so I can go and get them sewn, then it will be ready for a bag.

I have a new idea of the type of bag I will make...
A different idea from when I first started. I have enjoyed sewing this. I think I will do it again.

COBBOLD GORGE

This is the 4W bus that picked us up from our accomodation and took us to out little boat trip through the gorge.

The greenery growing amongst the rocks.

It was so peaceful sitting in the little boat.
Even all of us didn't want to talk. We were all whispering.

Stunning views riding through the gorge.

The only way to work out where we are is to take a photo of the sign
