Not SQUARED

I'm starting with this cute panel to make a quilt for a gift

I've cut the centre square out of the panel to make a cute baby quilt...
OMG what am I going to do.

But just take a look. It is laying on the cutting mat but it just doesn't line up with the ruled lines.
IT ISNT SQUARE.
Look how much on a lean it is. I'm not sure about it.

Now all the pieces are cut out of the panel and the extra borders are cut its time for sewing them together. I'm not sure how it will work though..
That centre is a bit of a bother.

So, I have now got it to a small quilt size ready for quilting.
It's still not square but it will have to do..
It measures 42". The panel pattern didn't include the outside border but it was too small without it.
I'm sending off an email to SPOTLIGHT to report I am not happy with paying for a panel that just doesn't sit right. I just hope it Quilts out a little better..

Your little quilt is so cute! That's why I never buy panels anymore...they're never square like they should be.

It's very cute, but I understand your frustration. I would spray it until it's really damp, then pull it square and pin it to the ironing board, then iron it dry. That should help get it to a point where you can quilt it up and be a little more sure that it will stay square. Hope that helps.

Very frustrating and such a pity because it's such a pretty panel, lovely gentle colours. However, you seem to have made it come square, magic. Hope you get a good reply from Spotlight.

This seems to be a constant problem with panels Jo, you have done a good job with it though. Hope too you get a reply from Spotlight.

Annoying, but you have done a great job with the top. Spotlight is not on my happy list, had the whole house installed with new drapes, 5 of them are not lined, seems she “forgot “ to tick the box, want them remade, refuse to pay for the new ones....

l've also found that panels are rarely square .. grrr. I think it'll be fine once it's quilted-washed-dried. l read you were having difficulties with cutting bias binding. Here's a PDF at Moda Bake Shop -under INDEX -under SEP 2018 - Sep 2-How to-Continuous binding. Hope this is helpful, if you still need it. ~Patti

It appears to me that you have done a great job with a crooked center.

It is a cute panel - and your border fabric works really well with it. What a pain that it was so crooked. I'll be interested to hear if you get any response from Spotlight.

It looks square now but what a pain. I love panels but that is annoying. Spotlight is not one of my favourite shops.... let us know what they say.
