After I did some measurements and worked out what fabrics I had and what would fit where. I got into cutting. The sashings and borders are cut.
Borders and sashings all cut |
I have sewn all the sashings in, started on the borders. Only the 2 side borders to go.
It's getting there. Only 2 sides to go. |
I am sick of getting pricked by all the pins. That is my Slow Stitching Sunday project today.
Sewing down all the sashings. See all those pins. They are the sashings I still have to sew.
A bad, frosty photo. But this is where I am hand stitching the sashings |
After it's all together and no more pins I will have to go back and machine quilt all the sashings and outside border. Those wadding pieces need to be held in there.
This is all the fabric that is left over. That is why I have a sashing strip on the back.
I think it looks ok.
Only small pieces of fabric left |

Sounds a lot of work. Well done for persevering! I have made lots of QAYG blocks for other people to turn into donation quilts and love the process of making them. I have made two quilts of my own joining the QAYG blocks together but found it really hard. Perhaps I wasn't using the right method?
Well it looks like a nice quilt after all that work. Definitely worth rescuing from the cupboard.
It looks really good, but it does seem an odd way of doing qayg.. you do manage to get things done though.
It's a lovely quilt, and you are close to finishing this cupboard rescue. Keep it up :-)
What a lovely string quilt, and gorgeous backing fabric. Ergh. I would have thrown it in the cupboard too. How wonderful to have it out and almost done! Hurrah! I remember stitching and stitching the back flaps on QAYG strips. Oh boy. I think I spent hours and hours doing it on a bus shop hop with SSQ years and years ago. Then I started quilting bigger quilts too. How wonderful to dig something out and finish it. xo
You're sew good keeping up with it Jo.....looks good.
It may be a pain in the proverbial but it looks great! Won't be long and it will finished!
Lots of work going on but what a pretty finish it will be! :)
This quilt needed rescuing from the cupboard, it is looking great.
Good luck getting all that stitching done today. It is a beautiful quilt!
I've never tried QAYG, but your quilt looks lovely, well worth rescuing!
All those sashings dont sound like much fun but it is a pretty quilt and the sashing fabric on the back gives it a nice tie to the front. You're almost there!
Don't be so down on that quilt, it is very pretty. I have yet to work on a QAYG quilt, but I have a book on it with one in particular that I want to try. Keep working on those sashings. You will be glad that you did.
A fabulous UFO closet rescue! I really enjoy hand stitching those back seams!
I have to do this on my UFO of the month, but didn't make as much progress as I had hoped this month :(
Thanks for linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching!
Very pretty quilt. It will be worth it.
Well done on bringing it back out and getting it done, all that painful handstitching will be worth it Jo.
QAYG is not a technique I have tried and think I will not attempt it in the near future, looks so complicated, the quilt is looking excellent though and certainly will make a very special quilt when completed
So very gorgeous! I love blues!
LOL!! Oh Jo THIS is the best post to rejuvenate under our Sashing Tuesday Archives theme!! I love the picture of your strands of sashing....cause, right, THAT's the reality of prepping our sashing. The sashing really made a great difference in the finish. Looks good!
